I am working with Ashland Art Center to put on a Portrait Painting workshop with Andrew Ameral in March 2014.
This gives you enough time to really sink your teeth in.
Andy is widely loved as an artist and teacher. He is smart, generous and has a vast amount of experience. A hard worker and a deep thinker, he started out with a promising career as a concept artist (with Dark Horse courting him) but switched to fine art after he visited the Louvre. He immersed himself in studying classical drawing and painting and when ready, spent six years teaching anatomy and drawing at Florence Academy in Italy. A few years ago he returned to the States and now has his own school – Golden Gate Atelier in Oakland, CA that quickly filled to capacity with students.
As you can see from Andy’s portraits, he knows what he is doing.
I think his work shows a tenderness that is evident in his teaching as well. He is firm, certain, confident, but kind and sensitive, dignified.
I have taken two workshops from Andy and after each one I was filled with energy, vigor and inspiration.
Students will spend four days working up a drawing and spend the next four days painting. The model will be present at all times. Andrew will demo each day, and always has lots of handouts and as a student, you will take great notes that you will cherish and refer to for years.
The workshop will be held at the Ashland Art Center, 357 E. Main St, Ashland, OR, 97520 on March 26 – April 2, 2014. Fee is $850 general, $775 Art Center Members. Click here for the registration form.
Anne Hathaway’s B&B and Garden Suites is sponsoring this workshop. Contact me if you would like to be a sponsor OR if you need assistance arranging your visit at sarahfburns [at] gmail dot com.
