Dear Friends of CHAP,
All of us here at CHAP want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!! We have really felt the love and support of our community this year, and because of you we have been able to make the first six months in our new South East Portland home a great success! If you haven’t stopped by to check out the studio and gallery that you-our community of supporters-have helped us create we invite you to stop by and say hello!
Here is a great opportunity for you to swing by and say hello! As you may, or may not know, we open our doors to the community every first Friday of the month to see in person the healing power of art. Each month our teaching artists curate a show featuring artwork of the amazing and talented young artists we have the pleasure of working with.
In addition to these exhibits we have established a rotating quarterly silent auction of professional artworks generously donated by local artists. Each of the prints, photographs, sculptures, and other artworks sold will contribute 100 percent of the purchase price to support CHAP’s ongoing mission to bring the healing power of art to children in crisis and their families.
This collaboration between local artists and art patrons is an exciting step for us, and creates a new opportunity for the community to engage with local artists while making a valuable investment in CHAP and our local programs.
At our May 3rd First Friday opening we showed “It Takes a Whole Village” from 5:30-7:30.
Below is a sneak peek at some of the work that was available for purchase. All unframed work started at $10, and framed work at $20. The auction is up for the month of May, with a closing party on June 4th. Open gallery hours are Monday-Friday 11-3, or you can call us at 503-243-5294 to schedule a visit. Our gallery is connected to our studio at 1910 SE 11th, just four blocks south of Hawthorne.
We want to also extend a HUGE THANK YOU to David Rae, Allen Hardin, Molly Georgetta, Tomas Valladares, and the U of O White Box gallery for organizing an amazing exhibit at the TEDxPDX What If? exhibition. Because of the hard work of these folks and all who purchased the art work they were able to raise $5,700. All of the funds will be donated to CHAP and every penny will be matched by Nike! Imagine how many art experiences we will be able to provide for the kids and families we serve?!
We are thrilled and honored to have been a part of TEDxPDX for a second year!
