Update from Artist Danna Tartaglia

Jacksonville artist Danna Tartaglia was a high-profile artist…she painted right in the center of town for years, just inside the front door of the Carefree Buffalo. Suddenly, not too long ago, I realized I hadn’t seen her for quite some time and wondered how she was doing. I sent her an email and received a wonderful update filling me in on the changes she’s recently gone through. I’ll let Danna tell the story:

I took a very serendipitous trip though the outlying areas away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. My daughter has been living in Thousand Oaks for almost 4 years and I had been making plans to move here to be closer to her, but the city didn’t intrique me. We went on a drive to some of the smaller towns, and when we came to Ojai I felt like I had come home. Same feeling as when I saw southern Oregon for the first time.

We went into a terrific art gallery….that had just announced the day before that it would be closing in order that the owner/artist (Jeff Sojka) could spend more time painting and with his family. It only took about 20 minutes to know that I wanted to take over the gallery and keep it open. It’s a beautiful space right in the heart of historic downtown Ojai. And with the trolley running daily around Ojai….its like I simply found another Jacksonville. It is very much the same feel, other than Ojai is an adobe/stucco Spanish style.

I am having so much fun spending the days in ‘my’ gallery, talking to artists, acquiring new paintings from the artists. The name is Trowbridge Gallery – a thriving and prosperous gallery representing about 10 artists. All of the gallery artists  stayed on with me and I have some well known artists wanting to be included. There was no need to change much of anything, and I’ve found my years spent with Joe at Carefree Buffalo were the perfect precursor to owning my own gallery. What a great apprenticeship! I will be doing all my painting in the front window of this gallery, too.

This is a very exciting adventure that I’m on and I would like my friends and collectors to know where to find me now.

Trowbridge Gallery deals exclusively with fine original artwork that is vibrant with both color and emotion. The Gallery takes pride in representing a select group of exceptionally talented, local and nationally renowned, living artists. Trowbridge Gallery is located in the heart of downtown Ojai, across from the historic Arcade, and next to Libbey Park, the fountain, and the Post Office Tower. The Gallery boasts 24 foot ceilings, hardwood floors, and prime lighting and exhibition space. Visitors are welcome to view and ask questions about the art and those represented, without any pressure from a sales staff. The objective is to create an atmosphere where one can truly fall in love with art.

Ojai, whose name is derived from a Chumash Indian word meaning “moon”, is a magical town that is nestled amongst the mountains and a truly unique valley. The rich and fertile valley is home to citrus and avocado orchards, world class golf and health spas, and an active arts community. Located 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and surrounded by mountains, including the Los Padres National Forest, Ojai is a small town paradise.

We’ve updated Danna’s listing at the Southern Oregon Artists Resource to include her new contact information and the link to her new gallery’s website. She looks forward to staying in touch with those she’s known so well here, and hopes that whenever you’re in Southern California you’ll stop in to the Trowbridge Gallery for a visit!
