From March 4 through 21, the FireHouse Gallery will host Japanese artist Ming Nishiki Tayui, while
the Wiseman Gallery will exhibit works by New York artist Carol Radsprecher March 5 through
April 4.
An assistant professor of painting at the University of Idaho, Tayui was born in Japan and immigrated to the U.S. as a young adult. Her exhibit, “Word Within,” features watercolors that describe thecultural tensions she has encountered as a traveler and immigrant. Tayui uses calligraphy and Sumi-e as the foundation to express the relationship between written language and visual images.
Tayui will be at the FireHouse Gallery at 2 p.m. March 7 to talk about her work. A First Friday
reception is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m., also in the gallery, which is located at the corner of H and
Fourth streets in Historic City Hall. Paintings by Tracie Ballensky and Candice Johnson will be on
display in the Community Exhibits Room. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through
Friday.
In the RCC Wiseman Gallery, Radsprecher’s exhibit, “Playing Around” will feature paintings and
Photoshop drawings that use narrative images to reference the human body. Each drawing is one of
an extended series in which the sequence of images shows the viewer the evolution of ideas and narrative
within that series.
The Wiseman Gallery is located on the RCC Redwood Campus, 3345 Redwood Hwy. Hours are 8
a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
