Call for Artists FROG LOT Request for Proposal

Project Summary

The City of Grants Pass has renamed City-owned parking lots with a wildlife theme and has
placed City-branded wayfinding signage in each lot to improve the appearance of downtown
and enhance the tourist experience. As part of that effort, the City has committed to placement of art in each of those lots. The Committee on Public Art (CoPA) is seeking an artist to commission for 2018/2019 at the Frog Lot, located at the intersection of 6th Street / Redwood Highway and W. Park Street, near Riverside Park.

Site Description

The corner of 6th Street / Redwood Highway and W. Park Street is a busy thoroughfare and has many opportunities for the placement of artwork that can be viewed by passersby throughout the year. The proposed art pieces should reflect the frog theme chosen for that lot. There should be at least three or more pieces. (i.e. a jump of frogs)

Trees and other vegetation occupy this space and will remain in place. The City’s new Frog Lot signage is in place at the northeast corner of that location. There are several proposed sites surrounding the parking lot (see diagram of art lo- cations next page). The artwork should be highly visible and colorful.

The art pieces should be placed on a base (concrete, stone or other appropriate material), in compliance with the City’s request not to exceed 4 ft. x 4 ft. Any portion of the proposed artwork protruding beyond the 4 ft. x 4 ft. width of the base must do so at least 12’ above the ground level as to avoid the potential for collision with vehicles or pedestrians.

Budget

The City of Grants Pass will fund the project. Proposals up to $15,000 will be considered. Proposals must include a budget detailing materials, project costs and artists fees. The budget must also include installation fees and any permits and/or engineering needed to complete the installation. The City will cooperate with the selected artist for the development and placement of the base.

Artist Eligibility and Application
Proposals are solicited from professional artists. Artists currently living and working primarily in Southern Oregon are preferred. Proposals shall include renderings and a complete description of the proposed sculpture including installation requirements.

Applications should include a resume/curriculum vitae, a short biography and a statement of interest regarding the project and the proposed site. Up to four examples of recent work should be included as prints or digital images.

Proposals can be submitted in person, by standard mail or by e-mail. Questions regarding the project and the application can be directed to Susan Seereiter at:

Susan Seereiter, Business Advocate City of Grants Pass
101 NW A St.
Grants Pass, Oregon 97526 [email protected] 541 450 6014

Proposals must be received no later than Monday, December 3, 2018 at 5p.m.. The intention is to complete the project during the 2018-2019 budget year ending on June 30, 2019.
