The Summer Arty Apron Workshop with Diane Ericson

For cooking, gardening or fashion, the apron is a great canvas to let your creative ideas run wild. Bring trims, notions, vintage lace and linens – or maybe some old Levi’s, rolled up paintings on canvas you’ve been storing in the garage – all perfect starters for your unique apron design. You may want to include a theme, such as Asian designs or homage to a beloved pet. Fun and easy to make, participants will get three apron patterns to trace off in class. Diane will share her arty apron creations to whet your creative whistle. Diane’s Red Bike apron will be featured in the Medford Mail Tribune’s Home Life magazine for August. Diane Ericson is a long time contributer to the sewing industry, has a line of patterns, stencils and DVD’s.

Ashland Art Center is so excited to bring International Artist Efren Gonzalez to Southern Oregon for a visit and round of workshops in September!

Efren Gonzalez lives on Lake Chapala in the town of Ajijic, a picturesque fishing village near Guadalajara. He enthusiastically engages visitors and locals in the Efren Gonzalez Cultural Center, a gallery, frame shop, ceramics studio, and classroom, where he mentors both adults and children. His work includes painted murals, watercolor and oil paintings, and a recently developed, incredible, three-dimensional clay mural technique.

These clay murals were inspired by ancient Mayan traditions, although the method and outcome is completely Efren’s invention. The murals, which measure about 8 feet high and can be as much as 18 feet wide, are made in sections, then fired and assembled at the installation site. Although the
