The Rogue Valley has a long history showcasing local artistic talent. SOHS has the paintings that Britt created from photographs, Dorland Robinson’s moody, subtle works, and artifacts from Eugene Bennett’s studio. Dawna Curler, SOHS Archivist Pat Harper and local artists Bruce Bayard and Ann DiSalvo will talk about art created in the 1800s through the 2000s at the next Tales from the Collection event and also explain how the Rogue Galley has played such an important role in the region. Children’s Heritage Fair CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS The 2014 Children’s Heritage Fair at Hanley Farm is just around the corner. This cherished annual event relies heavily on volunteers like you. THE SOUTHERN OREGON HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE A NEW EXHIBIT: FAR OUT! SOUTHERN OREGON IN THE 1960s The Southern Oregon Historical Society will open a major new exhibit of artifacts, photographs and stories illustrating life in Southern Oregon in the 1960s in a space donated by the Historic Woolworth Building. The exhibit, Far Out! Southern Oregon in the 1960s, will be open to the public from March 29 through April 27. The 60s conjures images of JFK and Camelot, the Beatles and the British Invasion, mini-skirts and bell-bottoms, the rise of hippie culture and the anti-war movement, Woodstock, and the generation gap. Culture change in the 1960s came hard and fast. The tone and influence of popular music evolved with unprecedented speed. One Sunday each month during the summer, SOHS is opening Hanley Farm to the community. We call it Open Farm Day! Sunday, June 16 is Artists Day. Artists from Southern Oregon will be at Hanley, painting, photographing and displaying their work. Hanley House, by Stefan Baumann Many will have unique pieces of Southern Oregon art for sale. Join us at the Farm to talk with the artists, enjoy a picnic lunch (bring your own) and soak up some of the positive energy of historic Hanley Farm. Docent guided tours of Hanley House are $3, free for SOHS members. The Farm is open from 11am – 3pm this Sunday, June 16. Parking is free. Admission is free. Art is not free.
