Sketchbooks, Valuable Artist’s Tool

“Curious Bear” by Stefan Baumann   At our camp near Coulter Bay, on the boundary of the Teton National Park, there was a curious bear whose name is Number 399. The bear stood for a few moments among several fallen tree trunks before lofting away to another campsite. While he stood there, a burst of wind made his fur ripple like waves on water, back-blowing his thick winter coat. The…

Moving My Blog

Hello! I’m moving my blog to a new URL:  http://stermer-cox.com.   Dancing Clouds.com will continue to be my main gallery site.   The move has to do with what makes sense from a web design point of view.  And, the best means to use my two URLs. In my last post, I talked about not […]

Sometimes I Do Not…

Get In To Juried Art Shows I’m thinking about times when I do not get into juried art shows.  I rarely talk about it because it feels like a rejection and calls for a private moment.  I find it easier to talk about the times I do get in.  Success makes me feel good; not […]

Drawing Ovals

In my head, I think about being able to draw what I want to.  I see the difference in the line between when I draw from life and when I draw from imagination. In my minds eye, I see a painting of a figure and I want to paint like that. Its like wanting to […]

Drawing Ponies

Drawing My creative process begins with drawing.  Because it is how I develop ideas, I feel that it is important for me to draw often.  I work at it daily, though I don’t always complete a drawing. One of my most enjoyable types of drawings are these “simple” works done with watercolor and graphite.  These […]

This past week was a successful week.  Paintings were hung at the Art & Soul Gallery in Ashland OR.  After all the work in preparation, (framing, documentation) it was fun to see my kitties out of the house and in the gallery. I also did my watercolor demonstration for the Josephine County Arts Association in […]

I’ve been preparing paintings for “hanging day” at Art & Soul Gallery in Ashland, OR.  I am represented by the gallery and once a quarter we hang new paintings.
