About the author: I begin my watercolor paintings with an idea and a drawing. I build the painting layer by layer, drawing lines and shapes, looking for rhythm and feeling. My color sense is a reflection of my childhood in New Mexico fused with colors of my home in the Northwest. My goal is to go beyond the surface to find joy, wonder and a bit of mystery. I have shown my works in galleries, juried, group and solo shows in Washington, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico. My paintings are in private collections in the west, New York and Norway. To view examples of Peggy's work or to make contact with the artist, please visit her listing at the Southern Oregon Artists Resource. To Draw, To Sketch, Drawing, Sketching, A Drawing, A Sketch. I’ve been thinking about the difference between the act of drawing and sketching. And, I’ve been considering the finished products: a sketch and a drawing. Nature Sketching & Journaling – Table Rock Hike Saturday, May 6, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at Lower Table Rock The iconic Upper and Lower Table Rocks—formed seven million years ago by a volcanic eruption—are prominent reminders of the rich natural and cultural heritage found in the Rogue Valley. For thousands of years the Takelma Indians called Table Rocks their home, and early settlers hiked to their summits in long skirts and full suits. Today more than 50,000 people each year connect with nature and history while walking their trails. These “Islands in the Sky” are designated as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern and an America’s Great Outdoors site to protect their diverse habitats, expansive views, abundant wildlife and a wealth of wildflowers, including the extremely rare Dwarf-wooly Meadowfoam that grows nowhere else in the world. Join a couple of scientists-turned-artists for a hike and exploration of art in nature Continue reading Nature Sketching & Journaling – Table Rock Hike Saturday, May 6 By Sarah Burns, 136 contributed posts

I went to Paris for the first two weeks of May this year and my trip was entirely focused on studying art. I went to the Louvre six times – not nearly enough. I also visited the Orsay, Musee Bourdelle, Montmartre, saw Velasquez show at the Grand Palais, popped into the Musee Carnavalet and I […] Continue reading My Trip to Paris — Part One: The Drawings By Sarah Burns, 136 contributed posts

I’m gearing up for a landscape painting workshop in June, prepping my slide lecture and picking out great places to paint. I like my classes to be fun and relaxed while being focused and rigorous. This pear packing plant by First, Colver and C street is a great painting location.
