Southern Oregon Society of Artists Monthly Meeting: SOSA Work-in-Progress Critique by Dixie Kinser

SOSA May 2018 meeting : sosa logo southern oregon society of artists

The Southern Oregon Society of Artists (SOSA) holds its regular monthly meeting at the Medford Public Library on September 26, 2016 at 6:30 pm for a work-in-progress critique, refreshments and in-person social networking. Meeting / Critique starts at 7. All members are encouraged to bring in a work-in-progress.

This month is our SOSA Work-in-Progress Critique by Dixie Kinser. Members are encouraged to bring their work early.

Dixie first became enamored with art by dyeing silk. She loved to see how colors bloomed into beautiful patterns. In the 90s, she began another romance, this time with watercolor. Again, colors blended with beautiful results.

Since then she loves experimenting with color, shapes, composition and values. Then she just had to try abstract.

At present, her work is primarily abstract and mixed media collage using watercolor and acrylic.

For most of her career, Dixie worked in education as an administrator and teacher; however

Community Gallery Exhibit: Planets, Moons, and Meteors, Fiber Art by Nancy Pagani

“Not Quite,” Fiber collage by Nancy Pagani

September 16 – October 14, 2016 Reception Date September 16, 5:00-8:00 pm

Using a variety of fiber art techniques and little nuggets of physics knowledge, Ashland artist Nancy Pagani explores planets, moons, and meteors.

Local artist Nancy Pagani creates works in fiber on the theme of outer space. Images inspired by planets, moons, quarks, black holes, and meteors are sewn into her quilted fiber works. Nancy has worked with fabric since she was a child, and her passion for creating with fabric includes surface design, quilting, and weaving. Commercial fabrics as well as fabrics that she has dyed and painted are incorporated into the artwork. Her fiber works are playful, lively, and colorful.

National Arts in Education Week

Join us in celebrating National Arts In Education Week from September 11-17, 2016. Take two minutes to issue a Letter to the Editor to your local papers and tell them why the arts matter in education!

Designated by Congress in 2010, House Resolution 275 names the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as National Arts in Education Week. During this week, the field of arts education and its supporters join together in communities across the country to tell the story of the transformative power of the arts in education.

In 2016, it is a particularly important time to celebrate arts education, as we usher in a new chapter of American educational policy with the new Every Student Succeeds Act and its many arts-friendly provisions. In the new law, the arts remain a “well-rounded” subject and are empowered to be central to a child’s education in our public schools.
