Reception for New Art Exhibits at Rogue Gallery

www.roguegallery.org 40 South Bartlett Street Medford Oregon 97501 541-772-8118

Art Reception for new exhibits at the Rogue Gallery on January 19, 2017 Main Gallery exhibit Human Connection: Figurative Paintings by Karen Staal Exhibit date: January 5–February 16, 2018

Working in oil and acrylic, Ashland artist Karen Staal creates figurative paintings. She refines the figures to their essence, creating new harmonies with line, shape, and color. By her use of negative space, she evokes a narrative or relationship that expresses unity and joy.

This exhibit spans several decades of figurative paintings by Karen Staal. Each of the paintings presents the figures as connected and one with the canvas. Serene swimmers by the pool, jazz musicians at their instruments, embracing couples, and individuals in quiet contemplation are reverently interpreted, creating paintings of calmness and peace. Karen has exhibited throughout Oregon and California. She holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
