Julia Janeway,WESTCLIFFE SANTO, ceramic Reception: Friday, July 20, 5:00-8:00 pm Ashland artist, Julia Janeway explores the meaning of “sanctuary” in her new ceramic works. She creates ceramic “retablos” which traditionally are paintings of saints. In her artistic interpretation, the saints are depicted as owls, birds, and other animals. Her inspiration for this exhibit from the time she spent living in Taos, New Mexico where retablos commonly adorn homes and churches. Julia Janeway is known for her colorful and whimsical ceramic art pieces that depict animals, geometric shapes, and botanically images. Last day to see Heat Wave IN THE MAIN GALLERY

Fourth Friday Films, Alpaca Picnic and Call to Artists from Rogue Gallery

THIS FRIDAY, MAY 25 FOURTH FRIDAY FILMS Friday, May 25, 7:00 pm Local artists turned film-makers Bruce Bayard, Larry Lewis and Greeley Wells present the fifth installment of their Fourth Friday Films series. This Friday’s airing will highlight 3 short films by Bruce Bayard, Larry Lewis and Greeley Wells. Greeley Wells’ piece is entitled “Be Deep Into Presence” with the music of Jeff Pevar as the soundtrack.

This is the second to last of this series. The last film will be on June 22nd. Fourth Friday Films will take a break for the summer and return in October.

Films will be shown in the Rogue Studio. Attendance is free.

Teddy Abrams is a versatile musician and widely-acclaimed Director and Conductor of the Britt Orchestra. He plays the piano, clarinet and composes. A tireless advocate for the power of music, Abrams fosters interdisciplinary collaboration with organizations including the Louisville Ballet, the Center for Interfaith Relations, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Speed Art Museum, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Rogue Gallery

2018 Celtic Celebration at Rogue Gallery: Margaret Stermer-Cox, Watercolor, Irish Breakfast Tea

On St. Patrick’s Day, the Rogue Gallery will host a special evening event featuring Celtic art, music, and Irish food.

Musicians and choral groups will perform traditional Irish music. The evening also includes a singing competition of the best rendition of the song “Danny Boy”. A special Celtic themed art show by Rogue Gallery artists’ members will be on display from March 14 through March 22, 2018.

The Celtic culture has a long and rich tradition in music and art. The Rogue Gallery & Art Center celebrates the art of the Celts with music and art. Music performers include Pat O’Scannell and the choral group Blarney Tones. On display will be an Irish themed art show that includes acrylic, oil, and watercolor paintings as well as photography and collages. In the 2017 Rogue Gallery Annual Members’ Exhibition, over sixty artists interpret the theme of “Time”. The Annual Members’ Exhibition features work by Rogue Gallery and Art Center members and is always one of the most popular of the year. The Rogue Gallery has had a long history of supporting local and regional artists. This exhibit gives Rogue Gallery members an opportunity to exhibit one piece of their work on the central theme of “Time”. Over 60 artists are participating in this non-juried exhibit. Artists’ submitted artwork that reflects their personal interpretation of the theme. The exhibit includes watercolors, acrylic, and oil paintings as well as sculptures, photography, and pastels.

Main Gallery exhibit: Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Eleanor Erskine, Alx Fox, Zelpha Hutton, Keith Johnson, and Dan Tilden

Exhibit date: September 29 – November 10, 2017

Artists in this exhibit explore the classical idea of the elements: earth, water, fire, and wind. Described as the simplest essential parts of all things, the four elements have fascinated artists throughout history. Printmaker Eleanor Erskine, sculptor Dan Tilden, and abstract painters Alx Fox, Zelpha Hutton, and Keith Johnson uniquely create artwork reflecting this concept of the natural world.

Eleanor H. Erskine received a BFA in Painting/Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute and a MFA in Printmaking with special focus in Sculpture from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has taught at Maine College of Art, Kansas
