Studio Table

The wonderful Seth, over at The Altered Page has a new challenge! He has a call to participants to join him on Thursday September 18th, “as we celebrate the studio table: uncensored, unedited, and most likely unkempt.” So, thinking of this I started a new project and here is the mess I made. I started out with some calligraphy sheets of paper, my twinkling H2o’s and some inks. And a water dish and paper towels…

Changing Light

The changing light brings hope of cooler days. Its been such a hot dry summer, filled with thunder and lightening storms and the threat of fire has been on all of our minds during this usually green season. Still its been a good summer. Mornings of kayaking in the river and mountain lakes near our home. Preparing for workshops and traveling to Colorado. You can see photos of Decorated Pages, my workshop at MomoLolo Coffee…

De callada esperanza... of quiet hope

There is a quiet hope that fills me this first month of the year deep in the heart of winter. It is a hope for light, for the yellow glow of the sun. It is the hope for surprises and hidden delights. Small bursts of life and color. A hope of days filled with creativity. Winter flowers from the market. Staying warm when the world outside is frozen. In my studio I have been experimenting…

Color My World

Roxanne Evans-Stout 10-2013

So… I have been home for a few days, still not unpacked, but I am loving every moment of stillness and moving more quietly. Art Is You was a wonderful retreat. The connections I made were very special to me. Just watching my students make their beautiful works of art and seeing how they got there, taking risks all the while, was my very favorite part. Then I loved seeing how the teachers gave and…

In a few days I will be going away from the smoke and the drought of the northwest to the land of blue skies and ocean breezes. This workshop couldn’t come at a better time. It’s been such a hot and dry summer… Still some wonderful times but Autumn couldn’t come fast enough for me. Here are some photographs of life here in our little town by the river just before a big hailstorm came…

Sometimes we all need refuge. A peony, heavy with its beauty, drapes into the water. In the heat I need refuge. But the daisies thrive. So I draw. And paint. And only work outside in the mornings. All during June I worked on my Nature Journaling online workshop. My students are still posting their beautiful work on this Nature Journaling Flickr Site. Looking at it all makes me smile. I learned so many things about…

Collecting moments...

I feel as if I have been collecting moments all to share with you today. Moments perfect for this magical day of Summer Solstice. Reflections of the sky above the maples. A collection of flowers from my garden. On my own I tried eco dyeing. These are the only things that really worked. But the process was beautiful to behold! And then a student of mine and a new friend visited from Washington State. And…
