Bringing Jack Back

Bandon Mural restoration preserves local art while creating opportunity for young artists

It’s the last week of summer, and Bandon High School senior Becca Anderson is spending her days at the city’s wastewater treatment facility. Anderson and three other BHS students are using their vacation time to help artist and educator Vicki Affatati restore 5200 square feet of maritime murals on the water treatment tanks.

Participation in the mural restoration earns Anderson the primary research and community service required for her senior project. Anderson says the restoration isn’t “just about painting,” but includes fund raising and visit to service clubs. Ultimately, Anderson says she signed on with the Bringing Jack Back Mural Restoration Project so she could spend time with Affatati.
