New Painting Named by Charles Sampson
My newest piece, an oil painting of a longhorn bull, was recently entitled, “Don’t Call Me Buttercup!” by 1982 World Champion Bull Rider Charles Sampson. Charles was the first African American cowboy to win a world title in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). He retired at the Dodge National Circuit Finals in Pocatello, ID, in 1994 and was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1996. It was a great honor to meet him, and a greater honor still for him to give me the title for my painting!
“Don’t Call Me Buttercup” with artist Eugenia Talbott and PRCA Hall of Fame Bull Rider Charles Sampson
The original of “Don’t Call Me Buttercup!”—my new painting named by Charles Sampson—was purchased in February 2017. However, prints are now available. Please contact me at [email protected] for more details. Webmistress Hannah

About the author: The subject matter that I am interested in is representational. I strive to be thorough and accurate and yet catch what is fleeting and lively. The work I'm most proud of shows life as I see it: fatally flawed, but amazingly beautiful. See Sarah's listing at the Southern Oregon Artists Resource to learn more and make contact.
Anatomical Position Anterior Male Anterior Female Posterior Male Posterior Female I received a grant last year to help with my figurative anatomy studies. It was a real boost, both in morale and in the opportunity to study something awesome. I took a 3 month online intensive artistic anatomy course, I spent three weeks at the […]

About the author: I begin my watercolor paintings with an idea and a drawing. I build the painting layer by layer, drawing lines and shapes, looking for rhythm and feeling. My color sense is a reflection of my childhood in New Mexico fused with colors of my home in the Northwest. My goal is to go beyond the surface to find joy, wonder and a bit of mystery. I have shown my works in galleries, juried, group and solo shows in Washington, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico. My paintings are in private collections in the west, New York and Norway.

Going For It & Improvising Sometimes success is showing up and going for it. That’s how today’s post feels. This is another portrait improvisation. I try to start and finish in one sitting, which is not my usual approach. For me, this is a test of wits. I have to be able to think on […]

I painted this at an open model studio in Taos, working alongside well-known Taos artists, some of whom have been painting here since the region first became an artists’ mecca. The model was the daughter of one of the artists. NFS Media: Oil on canvas panel Size: 10″x8″

My favorite working method is having the model come to your studio many days in a row (nine sessions, unless I lost count) – instead of the way I used to work, which was have the model come once a week for a number of weeks. When you have the model in the room everyday, […]

Finished this piece in time for the PERISHABLE show at APU. I’m also making another project for that show, that I will take no pictures of, tell you nothing about and that is temporary so the only way to view it will be to come see it during April at APU.Filed under: Ashland Painters […]
