Poetry This week, we officially celebrate gratitude—though we unofficially celebrate it year-round, of course! So another big Thank You to all who helped me get to Vermont Studio Center in October. It was a dream come true—with the bonus of crimson-and-gold foliage and many new friends. I spent entire days in what I call Poetry Land, looking up from the page or screen to watch the Gihon River run past outside my studio window. It was a bit of heaven on earth. In addition to mostly finishing my poetry manuscript, I created and posted little bits of micropoetry and watercolors each day to share the journey. When I gathered those daily lines together, I was happy to see that they had shaped a single poem that celebrates beauty and community. You can find it here along with a few of the paintings. Hello, Southern Oregon friends! Summer’s here. Might I suggest a Saturday afternoon Poets & Painters workshop at Pennington Farms? Their summer berries inspired Mindy Carpenter & me so much, we’re holding a workshop to celebrate the sweet harvest: we’ll eat ’em, we’ll write about ’em, we’ll paint ’em. Here’s one of Mindy’s berry celebrations: I’ll help you write a poem (zero pressure!) and Mindy will help you paint a painting (also zero pressure!). No experience needed; this workshop is more like a playshop…it’s all about having fun 🙂 So grab a friend and come play with us: When: Saturday, June 9 from 11-3 pm Where: Pennington Farms | 11341 Williams Highway | Grants Pass, OR 97527 Cost: $95 per person (includes all painting & writing supplies, coffee, & berries! Savory treats will be available for purchase) Register: Email me at [email protected], let me know how many people you’re Continue reading Hello, Summer! Hello, Berries! Hello, Poets & Painters! About the author: My talented friend Anna Elkins and I are hosting an upcoming workshop on Saturday, June 24th! It’s called Poets & Painters and will combine our love of writing, painting, words, color and imagery. We will paint an 8″x10″ very simple, loose still life, write freestyle prose poetry around the piece, paint the words into the painting, around or underneath so only you know they are there or a combination of both. Still life objects and “mise en scene” will be provided. The class will be fun, nurturing, a creative jumping off to both your writing and your art. ALL SUPPLIES PROVIDED, including light snacks. Wine available for purchase as it will be held in the lovely outdoor patio at South Stage Cellars. Class size limited. No experience necessary. This is an expressive fun workshop with no rules, just showing up for yourself. Continue reading Poets & Painters Workshop with Mindy Carpenter & Anna Elkins | |
