JUNE 19 – JUNE 22, 2019 $85 registration fee – Register Now! Southern Oregon Plein Air (SOPA) invites artists of all levels to participate in 4 days of plein air painting! Artists can customize their SOPA experience by participating in a vendor fair, attending FREE plein air presentations, joining guest artists for on-location demonstrations, entering art into a juried show, participating in a “quick draw” event, and taking advantage of social events. Paintings entered into the competition will be juried for over $1000 in cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and four honorable mentions. This year’s juror is Cody Bustamante, Professor of Art at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR. The Nature Conservancy and Medford District BLM annually sponsor a series of free guided hikes at the Table Rocks led by local specialists in different fields. This year’s list of spring hikes – Find Your Nature on the Rocks! – includes one that we thought might be of special interest to your organization. Hikes are free but online registration is required due to limited space. Hello there artist friends, Now that summer is coming to an end, here’s a chance to sharpen your painting skills and enjoy the remaining warmth before Fall and Winter set in. Hosted by the Rogue Gallery, a workshop in plein air painting is being offered for beginners to advanced artists who would like to learn more about atmospheric perspective, how light effects color, and how to compare values for accuracy. We will be painting Table Rock and Rogue River at a location near Tou Velle Park in Medford on Sat, Sept 23 from 10am -4pm. During March 2017 at Art du Jour Gallery, we continue our presentation of guest artist Doug Wallace’s eclectic realm of Byzantine queens and mythical maidens. “Looking back down the tunnel of time,” Doug says, “scrolling through the historical archives of what has interested me artistically for most of my life, I always find a bit of the fantastic in all that I do…and nothing is ever completely realistic.” His art eludes conventional description. “The inspirational references for my paintings are many: Gothic, Pre-Raphaelite, Byzantine, religious icons, mythology, fairytales, book illustrators, and dreams.
