Capturing Light in your Paintings

Sunset at Panther Meadows, Mt. Shasta The smoke from the fires in Northern California is extreme. At times you can see only a mile ahead and it has made it difficult to feel inspired to paint outdoors. The dense smoke and ash falling from the sky constantly reminds me the losses others are suffering during this summer of great drought and fires. Be Prepared to Paint

“Ashland Barn” by Stefan Baumann   Last week I was traveling in Medford, Oregon, prepared to paint with my brushes, paints, and canvases in my truck, when I took an unexpected turn off the freeway onto a quiet country road. Plein Air Convention in Monterey

I have been invited to be an instructor again at the 3rd annual Plein Air Convention during the week of April 7-11, 2014  in Monterey California.   This is the largest convention for outdoor painters, and I encourage plein air painters everywhere to come to the convention.  And if you are a “The Grand View” viewer or member attending the Convention, I invite you to paint with me on location during the week.
