Dixie first became enamored with art by dyeing silk. She loved to see how colors bloomed into beautiful patterns. In the 90s, she began another romance, this time with watercolor. Again, colors blended with beautiful results.

Since then she loves experimenting with color, shapes, composition and values. Then she just had to try abstract.

At present, her work is primarily abstract and mixed media collage using watercolor and acrylic.

For most of her career, Dixie worked in education as an administrator and teacher; however

Steve Bennett, well-known artist from Jacksonville will be the critique juror for Southern Oregon Society of Artists (SOSA) on Monday, April 27. Steve, who has studied with many of the finest instructors in the United States, has been painting for nearly 30 years. Having worked in most media, he now chooses the immediacy of pastel, saying, “The pigment is right here in my hand.” His strong designs and colors add to the excitement of each piece. He will look for good composition created by the use of the basic Elements of Design to convey each artist initial concept. Art will be accepted from 6:15 to 6:45 from paid members. New Art Product Program and Demonstration at June 23 SOSA meeting

SOSA February meeting : sosa logo southern oregon society of artists

Monday, June 23rd at 7:00PM at the Medford Library, S.O.S.A. will offer a special, free to the public, New Art Product Program and Demonstration.

Multi-generational, family owned and operated since 1968, the La Petite Gallery evolved into Central Art Supply. The most complete art store between Sacramento and Portland, it leaves regional artists wanting for little.

Adam Bunch will lead off the evening demonstrating his master skills and offering tips using Copic Markers. Following light refreshments, Central Art owner, Dan Ebert, will introduce us to a variety of new products including a demonstration of Pebeo Paint. New to me, the finished product looks like shiny melted glass swirled together. It’s awesome.

We are creative people…let’s explore and have some fun for the sheer joy of it! Join us Monday evening at the downtown Medford Library at 7:00pm.
