Transcendental Hallucinations, 14”x24”, oil on wood

According to Tibetan teachings, the bardo (or liminal state) which occurs after death and before one’s next birth disconnects one’s consciousness with the physical body where after a particular sequence of degeneration follows. The consciousness experiences the clearest reality of which one is spiritually capable and then proceeds to terrifying hallucinations that arise from one’s previous unskillful actions. The orchid in this painting represents the great opportunity for liberation given to those who are practiced in a controlled mind of meditation. The Black Racer snake offers a depiction of a dangerous place as the karmically created hallucinations can impel one into a less than desirable rebirth.
