The Southern Oregon Society of Artists ( SOSA) will be hosting it’s regular meeting at the Medford Public Library at 7PM Feb. 25th with Lynda Hoffman-Snodgrass as our Guest Artist Hawaiian Sunrise, watercolor by Lynda Hoffman-Snodgrass A resident of the Rogue Valley since 1972, Lynda Hoffman-Snodgrass received her BS in Art from SOSC in 1978. A third generation Artist, she was encouraged to explore and express her creativity from an early age. Predominately a watercolorist, Lynda works in many water-based mediums and is known for her use of color with a strong emphasis on design. The focus of her current body of artwork is nonrepresentational and abstraction in water media on watercolor paper. Just a heads-up! Due to library availability, Southern Oregon Society of Artists first meeting of 2019 will be the THIRD Monday. Don’t forget this will be a juried critique and the President’s challenge will be black and white drawings for the 2019 directory. All SOSA members are invited to submit entries and all attendees will be asked to vote for their favorite. Number one drawing will be used for the front of the directory and number two will be used for the back. About the author: Writers’ Room Workshops provide a unique opportunity to write in community in Southern Oregon. Participants generate writing from prompts and receive useful feedback in an encouraging environment. Weekly practice groups and special workshops are led in the Amherst Writers and Artists method. Writers’ Room Workshops are built to inspire, develop and celebrate each writer’s unique voice.Marion Peters Denard is a certified facilitator in the Amherst Writers and Artists method. She holds a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College where she focused on writing short fiction and poetry. At the University of Puget Sound she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with Honors. Her writing has appeared in Arches: The Alumni Magazine of the University of Puget Sound; City Scapes: Poems by PDX Writers; and online. In 2011, Peregrine named her a finalist in the Pat Schneider Poetry contest. Marion taught composition at Vermont Technical College and has used her writing in support of preventing and addressing domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse.Marion has led writing workshops with kindergartners, adults returning to school, college students, teenagers, new mothers and others. She believes every person has a unique voice and a story to tell.  A new weekly writing workshop begins January 26 through February 23rd on Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 9 pm at the Medford Central Library. Come join us! Southern Oregon Society of Artists Members Critique Odessa Lake, Pastel by Steve Bennett Autumn Treasure, Pastel by Steve Bennett Tulips Aglow, Pastel by Steve Bennett Steve Bennett, well-known artist from Jacksonville will be the critique juror for Southern Oregon Society of Artists (SOSA) on Monday, April 27. Steve, who has studied with many of the finest instructors in the United States, has been painting for nearly 30 years. Having worked in most media, he now chooses the immediacy of pastel, saying, “The pigment is right here in my hand.” His strong designs and colors add to the excitement of each piece. He will look for good composition created by the use of the basic Elements of Design to convey each artist initial concept. Art will be accepted from 6:15 to 6:45 from paid members.
