Rogue Valley artist Betty Barss is an accomplished and versatile watercolor artist. This exhibit showcases a wide range of subjects from her beloved state of Oregon.

Betty Barss has been painting for close to five decades. She taught fifth and sixth grade art in the Medford schools for twenty-five years. Her painting expertise is with watercolor paint. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, Southern Oregon Society of Artists, and the Artists’ Workshop. She has received several awards and has exhibited throughput the Northwest. The Stage as Muse: The Art of the Rogue Gallery Staff

The stage is the inspiration for this Rogue Gallery staff exhibit. The artists approached the theme using the historical works of Shakespeare, classical music, modern dramatic plays, and the experience of attending the theater. Rogue Gallery’s staff includes Rachel Barrett (Office Administrator, Database Technician & Graphic Artist) Ashley Clasby (Education & Events Manager) Kim Hearon (Executive Director) & Anna Hinkle (Program Assistant).

Rogue River artist Vince Carl and Bandon artist Susan Lehman are lifelong artists. Carl earned a BFA from Miami University and continued studying with Mitch Kaufman-Katz and Pat Enos. Lehman studied fine art and textiles at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland and graduated with Distinction. Their abstract paintings are evocative of varied experiences and places with richly textured surfaces created with techniques honed over a lifetime.

This exhibition is a culmination of the Rogue Gallery & Art Center’s annual program the Artist Teen Mentoring Project, on display is the creative work of both teens and mentoring artists. The program gives local teens a realistic look at the life of a professional artist by pairing professional Rogue Valley artists with high school students for intensive study and interaction. During this program the students not only learn new techniques to use in their art but also learn how to present their work in an exhibit, and gain insight to the life of a professional artist. On display are a variety of materials and styles including drawing, watercolor painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture.
