Congratulations to Caldera, one of 12 national creative youth development organizations to receive the 2015 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama. Caldera Executive Director Tricia Snell and youth representative Alena Nore accepted the award at a Nov. 17 White House awards ceremony.

The Southern Oregon Artists Resource would like to congratulate SOAR member, watercolorist Sue Bennett of Jacksonville, Oregon, whose painting “Moon Music” was selected by the Britt Festival to illustrate their 2015 concert poster! The poster will be unveiled at the Taste of Summer celebration of the Britt Festival season opening on Saturday, June 6, 2015. You can learn more about Sue’s experience and the painting in an article in the Jacksonville Review, which will be on the streets and their website by the time we publish this notice. Way to go, Sue!

I am so excited and delighted to receive a blue ribbon and 1st place prize for my entry called “Drag Rider” in the Red Bluff National Western Art Show today. There were over 150 entries in the show and my painting of a tired cowboy on horseback who is bringing in the last of the cattle for the day won 1st place in the painting division. Throughout the duration of the exhibit, February 21st through March 28th, all visitors were invited to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. After the close of the exhibit, all votes were tallied and Michael Reedy’s Blash received the greatest number of votes.

Not getting away from my computer as much as I should, it was my great pleasure to step out and attend the annual awards banquet of the Southern Oregon Society of Artists on Saturday. This is the first time they held their year-end event at the Rogue Valley Country Club; around a hundred artists and their guests were seated at tables in the Country Club’s ball room where we enjoyed a beautiful luncheon with wine while waiting with bated breath for the Painting of the Year awards to be announced.

The Art Center Gallery at Clatsop Community College will open its 2012-2013 exhibition season with a two-person exhibit featuring the artwork of fine artist and graphic designer Kerry Conboy of Monterey, CA and fine artist and architect Don Copper of Chicago, IL. A reception welcoming both artists will be held on Thursday, October 4that 6:00 p.m. in the CCC Art Center Gallery, and the artwork will remain on display through October 25th. The gallery reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Both artists were selected to exhibit in the 2012 Au Naturel international juried exhibit by juror Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson, the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum.
