Letters of Intent for New Funds Accepted Until October 1, 2013 The Oregon Arts Commission, in partnership with the Oregon Cultural Trust, announces Connecting Students to the World of Work, a new grant program to support underserved students in grades 6 through 12 with professional learning opportunities in arts and creative career fields. Letters of intent to apply for the new funds are due by October 1, 2013. A small pool of competitive applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal, due on November 18, 2013. Grants amounts will range from $20,000 to $50,000 and will support activity occurring between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015. Connecting Students to the World of Work grants will support activities that connect students to the “world of work” by providing them with experiences and learning about professional elements of an artistic/creative career field. First Round of FY14 Grants Reaches Communities across Oregon July 16, 2013, Salem, OR – The Oregon Arts Commission awarded $1.36 million in its first round of awards for fiscal year 2013-14. Grants were awarded in Operating Support: $945,700; Arts Services: $163,400; and Arts Learning programs: $184,500; as well as for designated statewide and regional programs. The Commission’s Operating Support grants fund the operations of Oregon’s leading arts groups and acknowledge the role those organizations play in Oregon’s social, educational and economic arenas. Arts Learning grants support the arts as a critical link to educational achievement; they include in-classroom, after-school, and off-site activities, contributing to Oregon’s high level goals for education. Arts Services grants provide operating funds for arts councils and other groups working to make the arts accessible in all parts of Oregon. Originally posted 3.1.13 As you have no doubt been following in the headlines, specific parts of the federal budget, including that of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), will be impacted by a budgetary control called “sequestration” beginning today. This sequester, totaling $85 billion, will reduce funding to almost all areas of domestic social programs by about 5 percent, which would mean about $7.3 million at the NEA. This cut has been expected ever since the congressional “supercommittee” of 2011 failed to find agreement on how to achieve $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction over 10 years, either through spending cuts, raising revenue, or by a combination of both. Since the possibility of the sequester was triggered, the White House’s Office of Management & Budget has alerted impacted federal agencies to prepare for it by withholding grant competitions, utilizing employee furloughs, reduced service and other budget cutting actions.
