November 2020 eNews It seems like just yesterday I was putting together the eNews for October. Time is mysteriously flying by even though life is still topsy turvy. We are trying to continue some of the usual programs at the museum. Note that we have a new series of classes AND our annual membership exhibit will open on November 12. The open days and hours of the museum are still less than normal. When we are open we are pleased to have visitors. We hope to see you soon!In the meantime, stay safe.Enjoy! Hyla Executive Director Click here to visit our website A message from our president November is here and we have almost made it through 2020.I have to admit that it was not what I had expected or hoped for, but instead of dwelling on all the negativity out there I would like to look at some

GPMA August 2020 News

GPMA August 2020 eNews Grants Pass Museum of Art We had our very first “live” class in the museum on Saturday. It was so good to see people – even if we weren’t “up close and personal.” We hope to do more, but in the meantime we are holding some classes at Reinhart Park.

We heard some really sad news from the American Alliance of Museums:

The American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the only organization representing the entire scope of the museum community, warned that one out of every three museums may shutter forever as funding sources and financial reserves run dry. Without near-term assistance from governments and private donors, hundreds of directors reported their museums may not survive the financial crisis brought on by the pandemic.

We feel very fortunate that our museum is relatively stable. We have a small footprint, only two paid staff, and fairly

Grants Pass Museum of Art is offering more “Sketch in the Park” August Adult Art Classes by popular demand. We are also trying them out as a weekday morning class. Classes will be held at Reinhart Volunteer Park (All Sports Park). Each week will have a demo on the chosen theme, followed by plenty of time to draw onsite. Kristen will go around to each student and give one-on-one help throughout the morning. We ask that each student bring their own supplies and a mask (to wear if Kristen needs to get closer than six feet). Advance registration is required and class size is limited to 9 people. All levels of students are welcome. Each class is $10 for GPMA members and $15 for non-members. Thursday, August 6 9 am to Noon Demo theme: Rhythm– using the principal of Rhythm to create cohesiveness and interest. Thursday, August 13 9

grants pass museum of art - gpma october 2020 news

Grants Pass Museum of Art July 2020 News You would be surprised at how much goes on at the museum even though it isn’t open. We still have to plan for the future and take care of the business at hand. We actually had a “live” board meeting in June and everyone sat a safe six feet apart. Planning is tricky because everything is so uncertain. We are hoping to open the museum sometime perhaps in August? We would be displaying a part of our permanent collection. We are also hoping to have the annual membership exhibit and we were thinking we could have it earlier than usual – perhaps starting in October. We will be limiting the number of submissions to one per artist. We are hoping to have lots of participation so be thinking about what you want to submit if you are one of our

GPMA June Newsletter

Grants Pass Museum of Art GPMA June 2020 Newsletter Welcome to the GPMA June 2020 Newsletter.

I was fortunate in being able to virtually attend the five day American Alliance of Museums annual meeting along with 4000 other museum representatives. It was inspiring and uplifting and a good place to be in times like this. Overall the group is very thoughtful and very mindful of everything that is going on here and around the world.

One of the keynote speakers quoted a Doris Lessing poem that ends with “We are going to go from this to that.” My mother used to say, “this too shall pass.” (We’ve actually been hearing this a lot lately). However, that phrase assumes that we know what “this” is. We are living in the time of “this.” “That,” on the other hand is unknown. As we go from this to that we must
