Southern Oregon Society of Artists February Meeting
The Southern Oregon Society of Artists will be holding its February meeting a week early. This month’s meeting date is February 19 at the Medford Public Library at 7 p.m. It’s best to be there 10 minutes early as the Library doors close at 7:00 pm.
Guest Artist:
Ryan Moon was born and raised in Medford. Following his graduation from Southern Oregon Art School, he was recruited to teach there for six years. He currently has a studio in downtown Medford where he gives private lessons, teaches part-time in valley schools, and markets his work on line.
A skilled draftsman working in oil, he prefers the human form, yet is proficient in any subject. His unusual process works an abstract twist over a very accurate under-painting. It promises to be a fascinating evening.
Questions? Call Judy Grillo at 541-625-3285 or BJ Mathis at

Artist Eva Thiemann shows her oil paintings of Great Grey Owls, Snowy Owls and Great Horned Owls at Creekside Pizza, an Ashland Gallery Association member. Also on display are her wonderful paintings of bears. Eva’s style is unique and vibrant, born of years of watching bears in Alaska, with her subjects realistically rendered, but with the addition of beautiful colors, and semi-abstract backgrounds of snowy mountain ranges. Her exhibit of paintings is available for viewing from January through the beginning of March 2018.

Art Reception for new exhibits at the Rogue Gallery on January 19, 2017 Main Gallery exhibit Human Connection: Figurative Paintings by Karen Staal Exhibit date: January 5–February 16, 2018
Working in oil and acrylic, Ashland artist Karen Staal creates figurative paintings. She refines the figures to their essence, creating new harmonies with line, shape, and color. By her use of negative space, she evokes a narrative or relationship that expresses unity and joy.
This exhibit spans several decades of figurative paintings by Karen Staal. Each of the paintings presents the figures as connected and one with the canvas. Serene swimmers by the pool, jazz musicians at their instruments, embracing couples, and individuals in quiet contemplation are reverently interpreted, creating paintings of calmness and peace. Karen has exhibited throughout Oregon and California. She holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
