July 13, 1-2pm at Art Presence Art Center in Jacksonville, activist/artist Catie Faryl will talk about “luminosity” in light of the need for transparency and truth and what art and satire can reveal.

The aspect of creating art as political and social satire is one of many paths to truth since it can reveal hidden or unacknowledged aspects of society and what is communicated or not, as well as what we need to consider and change. Art can also serve as a relief to the stress of political and economic anxieties by reducing the grandiosity of our problems and looking at things with fresh eyes and light.

Who Does She Think She Is? Free Event Friday Jul 30th 2010

Friday, July 30, 2010 05:30 PM – 09:30 PM at Rogue Community College – Higher Education Center, Medford Campus.

A film and art exhibition exploring the creative lives of women.

“Who Does She Think She Is?” is a film/documentary which follows the lives of five women artists and the challenges they face juggling all the aspects of their lives – children, money, relationships, time – with their overwhelming drive to create.

They have opted to have it all – not to choose between career and children, responsibility and self-fulfillment.

The film asks the question: “Everybody expects women to choose. But what if you don’t?”

The film will be followed by a panel discussion with five local women artists who have also refused to choose.

Preceding the film with be an artist reception and exhibition of artwork by many Rogue Valley women artists. The show will remain on
