About the author: I begin my watercolor paintings with an idea and a drawing. I build the painting layer by layer, drawing lines and shapes, looking for rhythm and feeling. My color sense is a reflection of my childhood in New Mexico fused with colors of my home in the Northwest. My goal is to go beyond the surface to find joy, wonder and a bit of mystery. I have shown my works in galleries, juried, group and solo shows in Washington, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico. My paintings are in private collections in the west, New York and Norway.

Sometimes nature’s most awe-inspiring sights are those we find when we open our door and look out. Something about the proximity of nature to where we live makes it all the more powerful. As a plein air painter, having access to open landscape is a necessity, and I’ve been lucky to experience it in the […]

Last September I participated in the Umpqua Plein Air juried competition. If you’ve never been to the Umpqua Valley of Oregon, these paintings are a great way to get a sneak peak. This area holds some of the most beautiful and undiscovered landscapes of Oregon, and I love painting here. Take a drive with me! […]

Back in Oregon, I have rented a place on the Siltcoos Lake, near Florence. On a recent warm evening, I wandered down the street from my new house, paints in hand. Just as the sun was setting, intensifying the late-summer hues of the marshy lakeside, one of my favorite recent landscape paintings was born! Price: […]

In my studio, I revisited the location in my mind’s eye, and I love the result: a knife-painted piece that proudly declares the boldness of autumn’s hues. 30″x24″x3/4″deep […]
