About the author: The subject matter that I am interested in is representational. I strive to be thorough and accurate and yet catch what is fleeting and lively. The work I'm most proud of shows life as I see it: fatally flawed, but amazingly beautiful. See Sarah's listing at the Southern Oregon Artists Resource to learn more and make contact.
Finished this piece in time for the PERISHABLE show at APU. I’m also making another project for that show, that I will take no pictures of, tell you nothing about and that is temporary so the only way to view it will be to come see it during April at APU.Filed under: Ashland Painters […]

Albertons floral section here we come – I’m pumping out the floral paintings for my two person show at Ashland Painters Union. I thought I was going to do a floral show last September and use natural garden and field flowers, but it’s hot house instead. I do love carnations, so I’m going to pick […]

We had the most beautiful thunder clouds this summer (they brought us some brutal forest fires but that’s part of the deal). Measures 16″ x 20″, oil on panel, framed $840. Of course it’s at my show at APU this month. : ) And Thanks to Cammie Davis for making this video of our show […]

This floral still life is featured in my show this month at the Ashland Painters Union. The flowers come from Fry Family Farm – carnations and green zinnias. The acorns and sticks from my neighborhood and you might recognize the painting in the back ground. It measures 20″ x 24″ inches, is framed and for […]

I promised a preview of my show that opens Friday and here is part two. We had some brutal smoke from wildfires this year (we get it every summer but this year was the worst since 1987 apparently) and many of us cut out and head for the coast when it gets bad. The […]

About the author: A good friend of Ashland artist Sarah F. Burns, David Dorsey is an author and freelance writer who has been painting longer than he’s been writing. He decided, in 2006, to focus primarily on visual art and begin exploring the nature of painting, by both doing it and writing about it. He’s the author of The Force (Random House) and The Cost of Living (Viking), and numerous articles for national magazines. His award-winning paintings have been exhibited at museums, galleries and universities in the United States and Europe. We've syndicated David's excellent blog at Sarah's request so we can all enjoy his well written insights on the world of art.
If I were still living in Boise, where I grew up, I’d definitely drive to Ashland, Oregon, but alas. Love the humble title of the still life shown above: Copy of Fantin Latour Roses. The usual unerring values, and the color so subtle, it’s easy to miss how good it is. Can’t find any of […]
