U.S. House Rejects Cut to NEA!

Thanks to your record-levels of calls, emails, and tweets to your Members of Congress in the past few days, we have good news!

Just a few moments ago, the U.S. House of Representatives soundly defeated an amendment that would have cut funding the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The House voted down the Grothman amendment by a vote of 114 – 297! This is one of the largest vote margins in support of the Endowments in the U.S. House! NEA Funding Increase Heads to the Floor

Dear Arts Advocate,

In a return to “regular order,” this week the U.S. House is scheduled to vote on the bill that funds the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)!

Floor votes on these appropriations bills have been rarer in recent years, and even more so in the U.S. Senate. However, quick action by both the House and Senate is expected these next two weeks!

A potential amendment to cut funding for the NEA and NEH.

This week, 170 amendments were filed to the House Interior bill, including two amendments that would impact the NEA. We are tracking these funding amendments and will keep you posted if they will be up for a vote. The House Rules Committee is meeting tonight to make those determinations.

Currently, the Interior bill would increase funding for both Endowments by $2 million, bringing their budgets to $155 million. This precisely matches the ask
