Artist Teen Mentoring Project March 28 – April 25, 2014 Reception: Friday, April 11, 5-8pm Main Gallery

This exhibition is a culmination of the Rogue Gallery & Art Center’s annual program the Artist Teen Mentoring Project, on display is the creative work of both teens and mentoring artists. The program gives local teens a realistic look at the life of a professional artist by pairing professional Rogue Valley artists with high school students for intensive study and interaction. During this program the students not only learn new techniques to use in their art but also learn how to present their work in an exhibit, and gain insight to the life of a professional artist. On display are a variety of materials and styles including drawing, watercolor painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture. Artists don’t capture, but create.

Painting on location is one of the most difficult forms of art there is, and that said, it is also the most pleasing activities known to an artist. In the painting “Spring in Edgewood”, I captured a location on canvas that would have been overlooked into a painting of the movement of light and shadow creating a quaint little masterpiece.

The Rogue Gallery & Art Center is the Rogue Valley’s premier non-profit community art center founded in 1960 to promote and nurture the visual arts in the Rogue Valley. The Art Center showcases emerging and established regional artists, presents fine crafts by area artisans, and offers a broad range of visual art classes and workshops for all ages. RGAC is located in Medford at 40 South Bartlett Street. The hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are open every third Friday until 8:00pm.

First, may we congratulate the members of Art Presence on their new “home”! The new Art Presence Art Center, located in the former Children’s Museum at 5th and D Streets in Jacksonville, not only provides a meeting place for the organization’s members, but a gallery in which they can display their art, host art events and teach classes and workshops. Founder Anne Brooke Hawkins worked very hard to make this dream a reality, and she deserves many thanks and kudos for this strategic coup for the arts in Jacksonville.
