Anna Elkins – Goodness: Past, Present and Future

The Honeylicker Angel, by Anna Elkins (book cover)

Goodness: Past, Present & Future

Autumn is about to officially begin. I look forward to it—not just because it’s my favorite season, but because this has been a summer full of opportunities to remind myself that joy transcends circumstance. My season started with getting a gum graft along all of my lower teeth in June, and it ended with most of my home state of Oregon covered in hazardous smoke from raging forest fires that are finally being doused with rain. But my joy was not in my gums or the air quality, thank goodness! I was grateful when I could chew again, and I looked for a way to support Oregon’s valiant firefighters.

Gratitude and action are my solutions to such seasons. So I thought I’d share a bit of both—celebrating a few points of goodness: past, present, and future.

Poets & Painters Workshop with Mindy Carpenter & Anna Elkins

poets and painters workshop with Mindy Carpenter and Anna Elkins 6/24/17 at South Stage Cellars

My talented friend Anna Elkins and I are hosting an upcoming workshop on Saturday, June 24th! It’s called Poets & Painters and will combine our love of writing, painting, words, color and imagery. We will paint an 8″x10″ very simple, loose still life, write freestyle prose poetry around the piece, paint the words into the painting, around or underneath so only you know they are there or a combination of both. Still life objects and “mise en scene” will be provided. The class will be fun, nurturing, a creative jumping off to both your writing and your art.

ALL SUPPLIES PROVIDED, including light snacks. Wine available for purchase as it will be held in the lovely outdoor patio at South Stage Cellars. Class size limited. No experience necessary. This is an expressive fun workshop with no rules, just showing up for yourself.

An Invitation from Anna Elkins to Take Heart Reception

anna elkins to take heart reception

You are invited to my art reception on Saturday, 8 October at South Stage Cellars. The exhibit is called Take Heart: The Art of Encouragement.

To say “take heart” is to encourage. To encourage is to inspire with spirit and hope. And the Latin root of “encourage” is cor—heart. It all comes back to the heart.

Alongside the paintings, I am launching my new greeting card line that night. The cards are a mix of encouraging images and poetry: perfect for giving away, keeping for yourself, or both!

You will also find the familiar combo of award-winning wine, complementary nibbles, and live music. But there’s a special twist this time around: the evening is also a fundraiser.

To continue the cycle of encouragement, I am giving 10% of all art and card sales on the reception night to The Studio at LivingOpportunities—and an ongoing 10% of
