MYSTERIOUS CREATURES: James Deeb, Justin Diggle, and Jud Turner August 5 – September 16, 2016 Reception: Friday, August 19, 5–8pm

“Acrophobia,” by James Deeb

This exhibit features Illinois painter James Deeb, Utah printmaker Justin Diggle, and Eugene sculptor Jud Turner. Inspired by German Expressionism, James Deeb’s thickly textured oil paintings provide a dark satirical commentary on everyday life. Modern society’s pervasive use of surveillance is the central theme of the hauntingly stark black and white etchings of Justin Diggle. Jud Turner uses found objects, welded steel, and re-purposed items to create eerily beautiful assemblage sculptures which reflect the exhilarations and anxieties of industrialized society.

Jud Turner

Oregon artist Jud Turner has been working with found or repurposed objects and welded steel for over 20 years. His work has been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and is in public and

September Brings Abstraction to Art du Jour Gallery

Rondo in Color, painting by Millie Clarke

Rondo in Color, by Millie Clarke

Millie Clarke Millie Clarke, Featured Artist for September at Art du Jour Gallery, will show her new collection of vibrant acrylic abstract art. Clarke’s work has been described as “having wild spontaneity but with controlled esthetics”. She is noted for using colors in imaginative ways and in employing texture to add interest to her pieces. In her new collection, Clarke uses one foot by four feet canvases. The interspacing of straight bars over her creations provides the viewer with “windows” into the painting. These works may be hung vertically or horizontally.

The exhibit includes a large 30” x 40” work titled “Rondo in Color.” This piece is a fusion of paint-handling techniques which Clarke uses that includes scraping, scratching and wiping. The plane of a large painted area gains tension from her use of shaped and scratched smaller blocks of contrasting color.
