NEW Choose Your Medium Painting Class with Jeanne LaRae When: Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 (4 week session) Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm Where: Central Art Fee: $120
Choose your own painting adventure in a creative setting that’s as individualized as you’d like it to be. Students will be able to choose both their medium – oils or acrylics – and the subject matter they’d like to paint.
In this class, the techniques of artists who inspire you will be demystified, and you will be encouraged, but not pushed, to try various ways of painting that are a little outside your comfort zone.
Please bring examples of your work and ideas for possible subjects for your paintings to the first class. Students are responsible for their own materials, or you may discuss with Jeanne about providing supplies for you for each class or just to start.

About the author: I begin my watercolor paintings with an idea and a drawing. I build the painting layer by layer, drawing lines and shapes, looking for rhythm and feeling. My color sense is a reflection of my childhood in New Mexico fused with colors of my home in the Northwest. My goal is to go beyond the surface to find joy, wonder and a bit of mystery. I have shown my works in galleries, juried, group and solo shows in Washington, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico. My paintings are in private collections in the west, New York and Norway.

The “Meaning” Question. A fellow artist, Sandra Neary, asked me about the meaning of this still life composition. In particular, why is the egg larger than the rabbit? Dinosaur Egg & Pygmy Rabbit? Well, all sorts of silly responses bounced around my head. For instance, what if the egg were a dinosaur egg and the […]

Teachers, as in people who help others learn and acquire knowledge. Famous Artists As Teachers. Hi! Recently, Daniel Smith Art Materials asked the following question on their Facebook page’s “Sunday Salon Art Question”: “If you could learn from, and paint with any artists in history, who would you choose?” Hmmm. Oddly enough, I had to […]

Continuity, as in an ongoing flow of work. Its all part of a bigger picture! Day 30! Closing or Opening? Greetings! With today’s painting I arrive at the end of the #30paintingsin30days challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta Studios. And, yet, it feels more like an opening rather than a closing of my work. Open To […]

Plunge, as in just go for it; dive in and give your all. Painting Is Like Taking A Plunge. Greetings! As I near the end of #30paintingsin30days challenge, I find myself thinking about painting and taking plunges. And, it all applies to a painting about stacked espresso cups. Conversation With Dad. What? To explain, I […]

Center of interest – that is the area that I would like you to look at in a drawing or painting. Put another way, it attracts your attention. “Cappuccino V9”. Greetings! A cappuccino, by definition, has milk. If it didn’t, it wouldn’t be cappuccino; naturally! Cappuccino Barista. Greetings. I’m a coffee barista of limited abilities. I know how to make coffee, espresso and cappuccino. Beyond that, I need to look up the recipes online. And? So, what does that have to do with an art blog? […]

Composing without a plan or preparation, that’s the type of improvisation I’m thinking about. Improvisation In Painting. Greetings! I was thinking about my process for this acrylic study and the word “improvisation” came to mind. Its like riffing on a theme of an espresso cup and pitcher. If musicians can do it, why not painters?
