SOAR Welcomes the Ashland Art Center!

Click to view Ashland Art Center's listing at SOARThe Southern Oregon Artists Resource is pleased to include the Ashland Art Center in its directory of Ashland art galleries.

The Ashland Art Center is a non profit organization with a mission to provide an environment where local artists may function and receive support as creative individuals, and where their artistic abilities may be harnessed to reach a greater goal of arts education, artist support and collaboration, and interaction throughout the community.

A visual arts organization that serves Southern Oregon residents with art education
, art exhibitions and art services, the Ashland Art Center ‘s focus fills many specific needs within our community, both locally and regionally. With a roster of nearly 175 artists in 30 mediums, the Center has a pool of talent with the strength and diversity to back the various art offerings and services it provides to artists and to residents.

Among these offerings are the Center’s Community Classroom, located on the main floor. The space is lined with tall windows that allow consistent north light to illuminate the space and offers a view of Grizzly Peak. Outfitted with a complete array of furnishings, tools, supplies and equipment, the Community Classroom is well prepared for art classes in virtually any medium.  The Classroom can also be rented for parties, events, private classes, private artist studio time, events or meetings. The total area is 800 square feet and can hold up to 30 people; classroom and restrooms are wheel chair accessible.

The Ashland Art Center is devoted to reaching out and connecting with the community, welcoming visits from children’s classes, senior centers, teen groups, home school groups and any interested people.

Here’s more from Ashland Art Center representative, artist Sarah Burns:

We have a lot of great services to offer artists!

When space is available we have affordable studios in our Uptown Ashland location, giving artists the camaraderie of working in a group setting and allows for exposure to the public.

We have an amazing Clay Studio, which is run cooperatively, full participants pay a monthly fee and have a voice in the studio operations.

We have a Classroom, with wonderful north light windows, stocked with a variety of materials which is available for artists to rent to teach classes or to use for meeting or party space.  Currently we have a variety of fantastic classes for all age and experience levels.  We send out an email notice every week.  Ask to be added to this list at [email protected].

We have a Gift and Fine Art Gallery, and a Photographers Cooperative Gallery.  Artist Members can be juried into these galleries.

Rowan Design has an office in the art center. Christer Rowan offers a variety of design services for artists, businesses and authors at excellent rates.

We also have an art supply store, equipped by Central Art Supply, with most purchases are discounted 20% or more off regular price.  Items not in stock can be ordered from Medford and delivered within a week.

We offer an art display service in which our curator selects, hangs and rotates art appropriate for businesses that wish to have art hung in their space.  Among our clients are Ashland Community Hospital, Ashland Starbucks, Roasting Co, Royce Real Estate and more.

Artist Membership is $50 per year, and the many benefits of membership include:

  • Discounts to selected classes
  • FREE artist page on our website
  • opportunity to have your work shown in our business locations
  • opportunity to jury into the Fine Art and Gift Gallery
  • information via email regarding juried art shows and other art opportunities throughout the state of Oregon
  • Artist Members receive our monthly or semi monthly newsletter, The Artist’s Voice, where they can place free classified ads.

In addition to Artist Memberships, we offer the community a number of ways to support the Art Center, whether by donations or volunteering.

Every First Friday we participate in Ashland Gallery Association’s Art Walk, where studio artists demonstrate, accompanied by live music, refreshments and great association. In addition, throughout the year we usually have one or two fabulous Gala fundraising parties.
