Art Workshops By The Sea offers immersion opportunities in Modern, Contemporary & Traditional Art Classes. Affordable small class sizes allow artists and curious individuals the opportunity to develop their ideas, vision and skills by bringing them together with today’s top teaching artists from around the world. Art Workshops By The Sea offers an inspirational environment for indoor classes while the surrounding landscape of the beautiful Oregon Coast and the Siuslaw River contributes the setting for outdoor classes. Get a group together for discount prices!

Various art spaces around Florence OR, including Inns and Hotels depending on the class, are home to the workshops, and provide lodging, delicious food and a comfortable setting. The variety of locations encourages artists to relax, focus on expressing their creativity, and get to know one another. To provide a more informal, and attentive environment, class sizes are limited.

Instructors and their schedules are updated and added regularly to provide  diverse and exciting choices.
Art Workshops By The Sea classes: Painting, watercolor, drawing, oil painting, encaustic painting photography, poetry, creative writing, ceramics & ink drawing, multidimensional development, storytelling, dance and performance art. Sculpting The Human Form  $165 Click here to register for this class

Dates:  May 23-25

You will learn to make a proportioned human figurine. We will use paper clay to make a solid figure that you can take home and fire later.

A Painting a Day  Specializing in beginning students.

Weldon Oliver

Dates:  June 3-4    Learn to start and finish a painting in a day by blending colors and bring light out of the background with deep contrast in the foreground. Bright sunlight highlights, reflective lakes and snow cap mountains.

Jeffrey Menzies

Dates: June 6-10

All materials you will need are included in registration. In this five day workshop you will be walked through each process stage by stage in great  detail.  Bring your own ideas to class and make a banjo that is fully designed and built by you. No previous experience required.

Participants will learn to see and paint what they see quickly and with confidence, following guidelines and principals which train the artist to trust intuitive sight rather than drawing and measuring, regardless of the subject at hand.

Dates: June 24-25

Combine beeswax, resin, and powered pigment to create beautiful encaustic paintings. Students will learn how to mix wax medium, fuse layers of wax, and build a rich surface. We will focus on multiple techniques: incising lines, incorporating textures, adding gouache and oil paint, collage, and image transfers. After practicing with different processes, students will develop their own artworks.

Figurative Sculpture Using paper-Clay   $165 Click here to register for this class

Dates: June 11-12

Paper-clay changes the rules of clay work.

We will focus on building skills resulting in two leather-hard pieces that can be safely transported. We will discuss firing methods and surface treatment. Recipes will be given. There are some rules that govern paper-clay, but it’s easy once you know the secrets. Come learn the secrets.

Dates: June 25-28

The word photography means to paint with light.  “Photography is what you feel and not what you see”. This will be the main focus of the class, to help you get in touch with your own creative process.
