Mosaic artists are gathering in Ashland for the second annual Contemporary Mosaic Art (CMA) Summit at Southern Oregon University, October 1-4, 2015.  Some events are free and open to the public.  The purpose of the CMA Summit is to gather our online community of mosaic artists for four days of face-to-face interaction with other enthusiasts and show the general public the very best of mosaic art today.
You do not need to be a member of CMA to register for the Summit.  For those who register there will be several events, including workshops, networking meals, and a mosaic marathon to create a mosaic for donation to a local cause, and plenty of opportunity to learn, network and make friends.  Internationally renowned mosaic art instructors – Laura Rendlen, John Sollinger, Carole Choucair Oueijan, Susan Wechsler, Karen Rycheck and Mireille Swinnen will offer workshops for beginners to the advanced.  Dawn Mendelson will lead the construction of mosaic artwork for North Mountain Park and Nature Center in Ashland.  In addition there will be lots of relaxed time at meals to meet and enjoy other artists who are passionate about mosaics.and much more!
The Southern Oregon University community is invited to our various presentations in the practice of mosaic making.  Keynote speaker Brooks Tower speaking on Philosophical Conundrums in The Practice of Mosaic, Dawn Mendelson talking about creating community, Sue Springer, presenting a talk on Moving to The Next Level; Professionalism And Presentation, Kelley Knickerbocker will help us figure out what happens to our creativity.  These presentations will take place in the Stevenson Union, SOU.
The general public is invited to join us for a very special evening with Lilian Broca, who will speak before presenting her documentary, Return to Byzantium: The Art And Life of Lilian Broca at the Meese Auditorium in the Art Building, SOU, on Friday, October 2 at 8:00 pm.  During the First Friday Art Walk immediately preceding Broca’s presentation will be the artist reception for the mosaic exhibit at the Thorndike gallery in the Art Building.  Also, the public is invited to attend the mosaic exhibit and auction at Belle Fiore Estates and Winery on Thursday, October 1, noon to 6 pm.
CMA is dedicated to mosaic artists worldwide who want to share ideas, develop their technique, creativity, and imagination.  We foster interaction between novices and masters of the trade and artform through a variety of formats, including online discussions, support and advice, announcements of opportunities for work or learning, sharing of mosaic images.
