Awake, Dreaming in the Garden: Woodcuts & Screen Prints by Amy Godard
November 23, 2018 – January 11, 2019
Amy Godard’s work includes stylized interpretations of characters from folklore; mandalas and icons of plants; and explorations of line, color, shape and symmetry. Her work is inspired by nature and folklore and she hopes to inspire her viewers to connect to nature and to forge a relationship to old stories that have shaped us as people.
Born and raised in the Rogue Valley, Amy Godard is a local artist with a strong connection to Southern Oregon. She holds a degree in Art and Spanish from the University of Oregon, and has background studies in dance, education and folklore. Amy also studied for one year abroad at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. She has returned to Mexico many times and is inspired by popular Mexican Art Movements. She describes her creative process “I use both illustration and paper cut stencils to create my images. My paper cut outs serve as mandalas and icons of the plants that inspire me. My wood cut prints and lino cut prints represent stylized interpretations of characters from folklore.”
