First, may we congratulate the members of Art Presence on their new “home”! The new Art Presence Art Center, located in the former Children’s Museum at 5th and D Streets in Jacksonville, not only provides a meeting place for the organization’s members, but a gallery in which they can display their art, host art events and teach classes and workshops. Founder Anne Brooke Hawkins worked very hard to make this dream a reality, and she deserves many thanks and kudos for this strategic coup for the arts in Jacksonville.
The group’s first event of the year will take place off site, however. The artist members of Jacksonville’s Art Presence have painted custom wooden walking sticks for a show and sale at Doc Griffin Park on Saturday. 25% of the sales will go to the Jacksonville Woodlands Association. This on-profit organization builds and maintains the Woodlands Trail system around the town of Jacksonville for all to enjoy. Please plan to attend the sale tomorrow and place a generous bid on your favorite artist’s walking stick!
Next is their inaugural show at the Art Presence Art Center from April 27th through April 29th. There will be a reception on April 27th from 5 to 7:30.
In May the group will present a themed show, “Florals,” opening on the 18th and continuing through the 20th of May. There will be a reception from 5 until 7:30 on the 18th of May.
On June 16th from 12 to 4 pm member artists will be painting at the Beekman House, then July 21st they will be showing and selling those paintings with a portion going to the preservation of the Beekman House. There will be a Best of Show from which a wine label will be made and the winery will create a Beekman Blend.
In August the Monday Artists Workshop will have the gallery for the entire month. Details will be forthcoming.
Please add these events to your calendar or subscribe to our calendar at http://www.soartists.com/calendar.html and stop by the Art Presence Art center next time you’re in town!
