Art du Jour is pleased to announce our new member Deanna St. Martin who will be the featured artist in the main gallery for the month of March.  Her vibrant, spontaneous paintings start out simply as she uses Halloween cobwebs to create the texture for the underpaintings.  She then sprays on liquid watercolors and manipulates the paint, moving it, brushing it and continuing to amend the painting. She uses watercolors, ephemeral, watercolor pencils, acrylics, watercolor paper and Yupo.   St. Martin says, “The slickness of the Yupo combined with the viscosity of the paint interact perfectly to create chaos and out of chaos comes harmony of design.”  Her inspiration comes from nature and things that she sees every day.

The works of two digital artists, Ron Hodgdon and Robert Sharp will be featured in the Salon gallery.  Guest Artist Hodgdon’s most recent images display a whimsical, illustrative side of his artistic work. The highly colorful computer images of imaginary creatures and objects are created by his freehand drawing of each detail using a standard computer mouse as an illustrative tool.  All elements are separate pieces of vector based art, rendered and placed to create unique compositions.  Hodgdon’s versatility in the use of mediums and techniques has developed over the years from experiences in the wilds of the United States and Canada.   He now resides in Talent.

Robert Sharp is a skilled digital artist and Photoshop master of 20 years.  Sharp uses his Photoshop skills to create digital paintings from photographs. Using his unique process, he can be as photo-realistic or as painterly as desired.  Sharp says,” I am always looking for that perfect balance of photo-realism and painterly expression.”  He uses his own custom bristle brushes in Photoshop to make hybrid photo-paintings.  After retouching a photo using common techniques in Adobe Camera Raw, Sharp resizes, re-crops, and changes lighting.   Using a Wacom tablet, he hand paints on a blank layer above the image.  “The end result might surprise you.”

Meet the artists on Third Friday, March 21, at Art du Jour Gallery, 213 E. Main St., Medford, across from Vogel Park.  Hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and refreshments will be served.  For more information call (541) 770—3190 or go to www.artdujourgallery.com.    Everyone is welcome.
