Minutes of the Arts Alliance of Southern Oregon Meeting on October 24, 2013

Arts Alliance of southern Oregon logoThank you to the 18 people who attended the 10/24 meeting of the Arts Alliance of Southern Oregon hosted by the Rogue Gallery & Art Center!

There were lots of new faces and a lot of enthusiasm and great ideas generated. During this meeting, we shared the new mission statement for AASO and we brainstormed actions, goals and ideas for a Southern Oregon campaign to promote the arts in Jackson and Josephine Counties.

The new mission, created in September 2013 is:

MISSION:

Arts Alliance of Southern Oregon is an organization of artists, arts organizations, arts advocates, and the public, dedicated to building a strong, creative and sustainable Southern Oregon arts community.

WE ACCOMPLISH THIS MISSION THROUGH:

– Developing a strong, supportive system of sharing information and services among individuals and groups having art as a common interest.

– Strengthening the economies of Southern Oregon communities by increasing the demand for art and increasing arts advocacy.

– Supporting activities that raise awareness of the importance of the arts and create opportunities for all to participate in and experience the arts.

Some of the highlighted ideas we brainstormed during the October meeting for a Southern Oregon campaign to promote the arts in Jackson and Josephine Counties were:

– advertising, marketing and branding the Arts Alliance of Southern Oregon (example: a “got milk” type of advertising campaign with a focus on the visual arts)

-synchronizing events (example: Edgy in October 2013, or fiber art exhibits simultaneously throughout Southern Oregon (Grants Pass Museum of Art, Rogue gallery & Art Center, other galleries…)

-public art projects to raise visibility (example: murals, community art collaborations)

The next meeting date, time and location have not yet been decided (anyone wishing to host please speak up).

It is a pleasure seeing the Arts Alliance of Southern Oregon grow and evolve, gaining energy and interest as we slowly organize into something very special. The connections made at each meeting are so important. Raising awareness about what exists throughout Southern Oregon and strengthening our arts community through communication, collaboration and by truly supporting one another’s endeavors in the arts is really what we are all about!

Thank you so much for being involved! Let’s keep on growing and working towards our mission to “building a strong, creative and sustainable Southern Oregon arts community.”

Until next time,

Brooke
