July at Art du Jour Gallery

Featured Watercolor Artist Kay Myer, and Cammy Davis in Our Salon

The gentle flow of beautiful colors fusing together and traveling with generous splashes of water” is Kay Myers’ description of her watercolor style, and she says her “best friends,” her sable brushes, “do most of the work with minimal strokes.”  Kay is never at a loss for inspiration and can delight in the smallest things, light on a leaf, sparkle on water, and is passionate about painting nature in her colorful, loose and interpretive style.  She has been painting in watercolor since the 1980s and “loves exploring the endless possibilities this medium allows.”

Kay’s art hangs in collections in Koln, Bachingen and Reinsdorf, Germany; Krems and Vienna, Austria; Ryd, Sweden; Wales, UK, and many states throughout the U.S.  She is an active member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and also has won recognitions in international art challenges.  Her early studies were in workshops with Judy Morris, Sharon Wesner and the late Bruce Butte.  In 2015, she attended a workshop with Jean Haines, world famous watercolor artist, author and instructor from London.

Kay is one of Art du Jour’s newest member-artists and we are thrilled to have her.  Kay was born in a Denmark refugee camp and adopted at two years of age by an American farm couple from Blodgett, Oregon.  In 1971, she moved to a home along the Rogue River.  Her work was signed Kay Daniels until 2007 when she married Chuck Myer.  The couple now liveshappily in Medford, where Kay teaches painting workshops, helping others to find the joy she finds in watercolors.

Cammy Davis is Salon Guest Artist

During July in our Salon we are delighted to host mixed-media artist and former Art du Jour Gallery member Cammy Davis.  Cammy’s work has been featured in fine art galleries throughout the Northwest and in books and periodicals.  She is an active member of the Southern Oregon arts community and is a founding member of the Arts Alliance of Southern Oregon.

Cammy’s mixed media paintings and art jewelry reflect her childhood spent near a river surrounded by the woods.  The lifestyle was simple and creative: if Cammy wanted something, she found a way to make it herself.  This independent creativity manifests itself in her art today in her contrasting use of natural and industrial materials and her lovely, wildly original designs.  Cammy constructs her work from scratch. She explains that she “combines the hands of an artist who builds her own panels and creates her own textures with the mind of one who conducts her own research, attempts her own experiments, and takes her own risks. To Cammy, the creative process flourishes in a willingness to experiment and learn.

Cammy studied Fine Art at the University of Idaho, raised a family and then went back to complete her degree in Interior Design at Bellevue College in Washington.  In addition to her work as a painter and director of numerous local art festivals, Cammy has produced art tutorial and music-art videos for her YouTube channel.  Her paintings have inspired CammyArt jewelry, a line of jewelry made with images of her bright, abstract, fine art paintings.  CammyArt products are available at museums and galleries throughout Oregon, Washington and California.
