(Medford, OR) – March 6, 2013– High Fiber Diet, a Northwest-based fiber artists’ group affiliated with the Columbia FiberArts Guild of Portland, presents textile works as part of the Rogue Gallery & Art Center’s 2013 Main Gallery exhibition series. The Elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water exhibit features wall hangings, mostly artistic quilts, as well as felted and wearable art. The artwork demonstrates innovative techniques, superb craftsmanship, original design, and a unique artistic vision. Each fiber artist has created a window into the natural world influenced by the four elements: earth, air, water or fire.

Drawing on the tradition of quilting, the High Fiber Diet artists use tradition as a contemporary springboard, depicting natural landscapes and mighty vistas to intensely abstract visions. Artistic quilts made with variety of colorful fabrics have been pieced, appliqued, sewn, layered, and collaged to match each artist’s vision, inspired by nature. Each artist customizes the fabric with unique and unusual practices to including Japanese stencil dyeing, hand-dyeing, printing, painting, rust-dyeing, wax resist, and silk screening.

Most works include painting, beading, stamping, stenciling, and fabric dyeing techniques as a form of surface embellishment and surface design. Artists included in the Elements exhibit are: Mary Arnold, Elizabeth Bamberger, Catherine Beard, Diane Born, Christina Brown, Bonnie Bucknam, Lynda Christiansen, Gerrie Congdon, Mary Goodson, Terry Grant, Carol Heist, Laura Jaszkowski, Karen Miller, Maarje Paris and Emily Stevens.
