Get WILD with Columbia Center for the Arts.

It’s going to be a great summer here at the Center with the Oregon Wild! series of art shows celebrating the Pacific Northwest. Warm weather brings Summer Art Experiences,  amazing theatre productions of The Good Body by Eve Ensler; directed by Judie Hanel and Urinetown, the Musical; directed by Mark Steigner and many other outstanding events.  Don’t miss a thrilling second.

Pushing Reality Photography Competition and Exhibition
May 2nd – June 1st 

This year’s show features 40 photographs that go beyond the traditional landscape and scenery photography. “Pushing Reality” aims to make viewers stop and think and take a second look. Get ready to see work that will stretch the ordinary and evoke a unique and creative way to visualize the world.

The top three winners are to be announced at 6 p.m. on First Friday, May 2nd at our First Friday opening receptions. Complimentary appetizers with beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Author Talk with Cheryl Hill 
Mt Hood National Forest 
May 21st at 7 p.m.
Join Columbia Center for the Arts and Waucoma Bookstore for a look at Mount Hood National Forest in the next addition to Arcadia Publishing’s popular images of America series. The book by author Cheryl Hill boasts more than 200 vintage images and memories of days gone by in this Oregon national forest. The slideshow presentation and author talk will be Wednesday May 21st at 7:00 p.m.

VEEPS

Join local filmmaker Bill Kelter on May 28th along with some of the actors from the film for an evening of laughter with “Veeps: Profiles in Insignificance”. This film tells the story of Bill and Wayne – two middle-aged men in search of their American dream, their lives at a disappointing stall. They see a shot at a mid-life redemption and grab it. They follow the Vice Presidents as others follow athletes or rock stars.

Exploring Antioquia

 Join filmmaker Todd Wells and photographer Eric Parker as they lead you on a visual journey of sensational Colombian culture and two first descents. In the fall of 2013 eight elite kayakers from around the world undertook a most epic whitewater kayaking expedition in the heart of central Colombia. Along the way the team successfully completed the first descent of two never before run river canyons within the state of Antioquia. Down the raging waters of the Rio Cauca, Colombia’s second biggest watershed, and past the never-ending coca plantations of the Rio Neshi, the trip was full of colorful adventures.

Pastel Workshop with Karen Watson

June 21st & 22nd

Learn the fundamentals of pastels, beginning with various applications techniques.  Particular emphasis will be given to understanding value relationships and how to play with color.  Class is limited to 12 students. Cost for this 2 day workshop is $165 to register click here

This one day event covers the basics for painting a portrait, using you as the subject. It’s easy to take risks when working with your own image – after all, you only have yourself to please! So you can experiment to your heart’s content.
