Needle Felted Tapestries with Corbin Brashear of Wild & Wooly Felt Sunday November 13 • 12:30-4PM We are excited to once again host local fiber artist Corbin Brashear of Wild & Wooly Felt, on Sunday November 13 from 12:30-4:00pm for a hands-on workshop, Needle Felted Tapestries, at the Guild Gallery & Art Center! Dance in the whimsical border between 2 & 3 dimensions, and explore the wonder and power of the magical felting needle to transform imagination into form! Learn how to create lusciously colored, richly layered tapestries, embellished or framed with found natural objects. These textural and cozy tapestries are perfect for seasonal decorating and a fun craft to try for the coming winter months! No previous needle felting experience is required.
Class Overview: You will start with a blank piece of prefelt as your canvas, layering on colors like a painting and sculpting wool into bas-relief with a felting needle. Then you will attach a selection of natural objects such as driftwood or dried kelp onto your tapestry, incorporating them into the design by sewing or wiring them onto the piece. You are welcome to bring your own natural objects to contribute to your tapestry. Class fees are on a sliding scale $50-$70. All materials are provided and included in the class fee. If the sliding scale would be a hardship and you’d like to request a scholarship, please email [email protected] or call us at 541-592-5019. Class will be led by Southern Oregon fiber artist Corbin Brashear, who finds inspiration in the beautiful environment of the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon and Northern California, where she has lived for the past 25 years. Corbin lives part of the year outdoors on a wild, remote and deeply beautiful piece of land on the South Fork of the Smith River, about 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean, as the crow flies. Living simply outdoors has allowed her to deepen her artistic expression and raw materials with which to work. For the last 15 years Corbin has been leading needle felting workshops, both locally and in Northern California, for both adults and kids. She loves sharing this satisfying and whimsical art form with people, helping to guide her students to connect with their own inner creativity and sense of magic. Her wooly artwork can be viewed and purchased at www.wildandwoolyfelt.com
