Curtis Keeler Featured Artist at South Stage CellarsSOAR member Curtis Keeler is the featured artist for June at South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville. His mixed media paintings are dimensional, colorful, and have a consistent dose of humor you will love. We adore the way he lifts key elements off the canvas by rendering them with recycled bits of metal. See them for yourself — Join him for a reception on 6/13! The Cellar’s receptions are generally from 5:30 – 8pm, but you might want to call to make sure. South Stage Cellars is located at 125 S. 3rd Street in Jacksonville, Oregon. About the author:
My talented friend Anna Elkins and I are hosting an upcoming workshop on Saturday, June 24th! It’s called Poets & Painters and will combine our love of writing, painting, words, color and imagery. We will paint an 8″x10″ very simple, loose still life, write freestyle prose poetry around the piece, paint the words into the painting, around or underneath so only you know they are there or a combination of both. Still life objects and “mise en scene” will be provided. The class will be fun, nurturing, a creative jumping off to both your writing and your art. ALL SUPPLIES PROVIDED, including light snacks. Wine available for purchase as it will be held in the lovely outdoor patio at South Stage Cellars. Class size limited. No experience necessary. This is an expressive fun workshop with no rules, just showing up for yourself. By Southern Oregon Artists Resource, 2007 contributed posts

Welcome to Our New Member, Melody Blore The Southern Oregon Artists Resource is delighted to welcome our newest member, painter Melody Blore. Please take a moment to visit her listing and follow the links to explore her online presence.
Melody Blore leads a quirky and colorful not-so-still life. She and her husband Darrell retired to Jacksonville, Oregon from Southern California in 2010. On a whim, she opened A French Bouteaque four months later. What began as a Parisian-style tearoom soon evolved into a source for those with “Tea Party Spirit.” It claimed to be “imagined and created by a Fancy Nancy / funky Martha Stewart kinda gal…A creative cottage full of imagination and magical experiences.” When she closed, customers asked, “what will you do now?” She said she would paint. Her whimsical works reflect all her bouteaque embodied—a spirit of celebration. Melody paints in acrylic with a happy color palette. She has been painting for four years, but has been an artist since childhood. At her Newport Beach, CA flower shop, Melody’s Garden, customers often declared how she ‘painted with flowers.’ Now she paints them on canvas! Melody’s experiences as a decorator, graphic artist, florist, party stylist and tearoom owner are often the subjects of her paintings. Melody’s Art Exhibit at South Stage CellarsYou can find Melody working in her studio at the Ashland Art Center…and from May 11 through June 15, you can see an exhibit of her paintings at South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville. Meet Melody at the reception on Saturday, May 20 from 5:30–8pm and enjoy live music by Jeff Kloetzel, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and wine tasting. Welcome to the SOAR, Melody, and we wish you the best of success with your show! By Southern Oregon Artists Resource, 2007 contributed posts

You are invited to my art reception on Saturday, 8 October at South Stage Cellars. The exhibit is called Take Heart: The Art of Encouragement.
To say “take heart” is to encourage. To encourage is to inspire with spirit and hope. And the Latin root of “encourage” is cor—heart. It all comes back to the heart. Alongside the paintings, I am launching my new greeting card line that night. The cards are a mix of encouraging images and poetry: perfect for giving away, keeping for yourself, or both! You will also find the familiar combo of award-winning wine, complementary nibbles, and live music. But there’s a special twist this time around: the evening is also a fundraiser. To continue the cycle of encouragement, I am giving 10% of all art and card sales on the reception night to The Studio at LivingOpportunities—and an ongoing 10% of greeting card sales after that. The Studio offers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a space to come and create art. It’s an organization that truly celebrates the power of encouragement. All to say, the reception is fine reason to bring a friend and/or a love and swing into South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville on October 8 from 5:30-8 pm. May we all take heart! About the author: Pegi Smith (Peggy Smith) paints in acrylics on canvas from her home studio in the mountains near Ashland, Oregon. It’s not often that one finds an artist who paints from her dreams, yet Pegi’s visionary style distinguishes her paintings from all others, immersing the viewer in her personal—and very compelling— dream world. From these dreams, Pegi paints abstracts from equine art to nudes to nature, using rich colors to evoke emotion and to uplift the viewer. She is a self-taught artist, and therefore uses her paints in an innovative manner exclusive to herself. Her use of color, which changes with each collection, also makes her work perfect for nearly any interior decor scheme. Pegi’s thoughtful approach to her art and unique nuance with her brush have gained her a devoted following, with collectors vying for new paintings as they are unveiled. See her work and make contact with the artist by visiting Pegi's listing at SOAR for links to her website and more! A new resident of Ashland and the southern Oregon arts community, SOAR welcomes artist Mindy Carpenter to the Visual Artists Directory.Mindy Carpenter loves painting, writing, wonderful stationery, the ocean, all things nautical, funny animals, travel, books, vintage treasures, pastries, and cafés. She especially loves these things at the same time, which is how her business, Carpe Diem Papers, was born. She began painting in 2009 in Sausalito, California. It called to her–the colors, the texture of the paint, the meditative process, and the sweet time she spent on Sunday afternoons hanging out at the ICB building, home of an extraordinary artist’s community on Richardson Bay. she sat on the dock of that bay and though, One day I will do this full time. Home, Sweet Home, by Mindy Carpenter Fast forward a little, and Mindy has become a talented and successful illustrator. Her paintings and greeting cards have a childlike innocence, imaginative color palette, and a sweetness, a fondness for the little things in our journey that make us happy. Her recent move to Ashland yielded, among other things, a brilliant view of the Rogue Valley and a studio amidst tall trees where she paints the illustrations for her greeting cards. We have syndicated Mindy’s fabulous blog so we can share her new posts with you as she writes new ones. Please visit Mindy Carpenter’s new listing at SOAR for contact information and web links so you can see more of her work and learn more about the artist. Mindy will have an exhibition of her acrylic paintings at South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville next month. We are looking forward to meeting the artist and seeing her work in person! Her show begins April 7 and runs through May 19th, with a reception on Saturday, April 30th from 5:30-8pm to include live music, hors d’oeuvres and of course South Stage Cellars’ fabulous wines. We are blessed that Mindy has made southern Oregon and its art community the most recent stop on her creative journey. A journey charted by following her heart and seeing what’s on the other end of the yellow brick road. Carpe Diem. Welcome to southern Oregon, and to the Southern Oregon Artists Resource, Mindy!
