Royal Nebeker: An Artist’s Journey features the beautiful figurative paintings and collages of Royal Nebeker. Nebeker received his MFA from Brigham Young University and continued his art studies in Norway, where he became deeply influenced by the work of Edvard Munch.  Nebeker’s painting also reflects his engagement with Abstract Expressionism.  He currently resides in Astoria, Oregon, and he has held residencies and has exhibited widely throughout the world.  Miller Paint Company sponsors Royal Nebeker: An Artist’s Journey.

Nebeker’s exhibition of paintings will be complemented by Recent Additions to the Permanent Collection: Andy Warhol Silk-screens.  This year, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts generously donated numerous silk-screens.  While on display, the silk-screens will be accompanied by informational panels written by SOU students.

The Schneider Museum of Art summer exhibitions will be augmented by docent tours for all ages, hands-on activities, and special events, such as lectures, concerts, and performances.  The Museum will hold a weekly docent-led tour for the public on Tuesdays at noon. Sculpting For Peace

Harriet Greene, Sculptress

Hours: by chance/by appointment/come meet the artists in their natural habitat

161 Fourth Street, (541) 482 – 3672

What do Harriet Greene, marble sculptress/printmaker and Martin Goldman, illustrator/photographer have in common? Find out at their working studio, 161 4th St. between B & C Streets on First Friday, September 2nd, 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Meet the artists and enjoy music and refreshments.

Harriet Greene:

“I believe the path to peace begins with the individual.” This summer and for a few years to come, I will be carving five blocks of marble with the letters P E A C E on one side and quotes from the world’s greatest advocates of peace on the other. From Gandhi, Tolstoy, Thomas Merton, Archbishop Desmond Tutu to the Dalai Lama, their words are there in stone forever.

Martin Goldman:

I have a series of modern day rodeo prints. When I came out with Star Spangled Cowboy a collector of mine said he had the perfect person to give it to. He was friends with Ronald Reagan and asked if I would mind if he presented President Reagan with the print. I said,” If President Reagan has to have art, it might as well be mine.” The White House called to verify the artist whether I was alive or dead. The President sent me a letter on White House stationery, which I hung beside the print. Now everyone wants the print with the letter.

Women With Attitude and Men Who Love Women With Attitude! at JEGA Gallery & Sculpture Garden

JEGA Gallery Asian Art Collection

JEGA Gallery Asian Art Collection

Each year JEGA celebrates Women’s History Month with an art exhibit showcasing the courage and wisdom of women, and the men who love them. The show opened in March and continues through the end of April.

J. Ellen Austin, stone sculptor, artist and owner of the JEGA believes “women with attitude (and the men who believe in us) exhibit courage in their daily lives and strive to give back to others, their communities and society at large. ‘Attitude’ symbolizes an outlook and respect for other peoples’ philosophies, lifestyles and cultural diversities while retaining a youthful willingness to learn and grow from new knowledge and experiences.”

The JEGA Gallery & Sculpture Garden is an art gallery which promotes ART… which asks you to think a little and to dialogue with… to ponder… to become intrigued and wish to take home with you to share… with your friends, relatives and others to … think a little too! Perhaps to think a little about other perspectives, ideas and ways of seeing and being in the world today.

SOAR Welcomes JEGA Gallery! Plus, a last-minute call for their April show…

JEGA Gallery and Sculpture GardenWe extend a warm welcome to J Ellen Austin and her daughter Rebecca, JEGA’s gallery assistant, who have just listed JEGA Gallery in the Ashland Galleries section of the Art Directories at the Southern Oregon Artists Resource! We’re delighted to have yet another Ashland gallery on board to help complete our online portrait of the Southern Oregon art & culture scene and look forward to helping them promote the artists they represent in the coming year.

J Ellen, a well-known and respected sculptress and major force in the Ashland art community, founded both the Ashland Gallery Association and JEGA Gallery and Sculpture Garden, located in Ashland’s Historic Railroad District, 17 years ago.

Though JEGA was listed after their current call to artists had officially expired, they’ve extended the deadline to tomorrow, March 28, for those who haven’t yet responded and who may just now be hearing about this. JEGA invites artists to submit original paintings, drawings and sculpture for the April 1 opening of their 18th annual exhibit, “Women with Attitude! and Men who Love Women with Attitude!” At this late date submissions by mail would be too late for entry, so please call the gallery at 541.488.2474 or email [email protected] Here’s a pdf of their entry form for you to print, complete and bring or email to them.

We hope you’ll keep an eye on their upcoming exhibits as they are announced… better yet, attend some! You’ll be able to find JEGA’s latest news in their new column, located under the “Gallery Exhibits and News” tab in the menu above.
