When I moved the business to the Ashland Shopping Center a little over a year ago, my main focus was on custom picture framing, though I never abandoned the gallery side of things (my inner artist at work). Occupying an intimate space within the frame shop, Bohemia Gallery is now open!

In addition to showcasing exceptional regional artists, I remain committed to providing quality custom framing. You have options when it comes to framing and I promise to treat your artwork and precious memories with the respect they deserve. My goals are to make your project look great and to do no harm. That’s why I use conservation grade materials whenever possible, including glazing that blocks 99% of damaging UV light to protect from fading.

Gallery News

Bohemia Gallery returned November 1st with a well-received open house & reception for local artist Jeannie Azzopardi. I first met Jeannie a few months ago when she came in to have some of her artwork framed. As a huge fan of music, and jazz in particular, I was immediately blown away (and once I heard her story, even more so). She had done pen & ink drawings for years but didn’t start with watercolors until being diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2011. The Jazz Series came to life following chemotherapy, 9 surgeries, the death of 3 loved ones within a 2 month period, and the end of a four year relationship due to the resulting depression. Although Jeannie holds 2 BS degrees, an MS and MDE, “Education and intelligence is, unfortunately, not a talisman against grief and despair.” We’re honored to display this work. It will be up through December.

Submissions Wanted
We are looking for new artists to feature in the gallery and on the website. Stop in and check the space out or visit bohemiagallery.com/submissions for more details.

Concert Posters

I never planned to collect concert posters but after years of shows I have amassed a decent collection. While most of these are nothing special, I do have a few fun and rare prints that look great framed on the wall (and don’t wear out nearly as quickly as t shirts do).

Here’s the newest poster I framed for myself, picked up at a recent show here in Ashland.

This limited edition print (108/200 by Johnny Sampson) measures 18 x 24 inches and is signed by the members of the band.

I wanted something simple that wouldn’t distract from the art and signatures so I went with a red inner mat, nuetral outer mat (here I tried to match the color of the paper) and a red woodtone frame. The mat borders are 2 3/4″, weighted a little extra on the bottom, giving a total size of about 24 x 30.

On a wall with three other posters–all in black frames–the red inner mat and frame really make this piece pop, and adds some much needed color to my living room.

technical info:
mounted on KoolTack Preserve foamboard*
cotton rag matboards by Crescent
conservation clear acrylic glazing  by TrueVue® (blocks 99% of UV light to minimize fading).

-photo taken without glazing installed

*from a preservation view, something like this should never be permanently mounted. In this case I wanted the print to be totally flat & protected, so I mounted it to KoolTack Preserve which is a cotton-faced foamboard designed specifically for the custom framing industry, and is completely reversible.

New Styles/Summer Special!

The new Hyde collection from Roma has a contemporary feel with the distressed look of aged leather. Available in three sizes and colors.

Make your artwork really POP with one of these frames from Direct Moulding. Perfect for concert posters & music memorabilia!

With clean lines and authentic wood grain, the Kota line from Studio Moulding has long been one of my best sellers. They’ve just added two new styles. At almost 2.5″ wide, the first one is perfect for larger pieces while the second makes a great shadowbox!

Bohemia Gallery Returns

Fresh paint. Magnetic wall & sculpture backdrop curtain are hung. New artwork up soon.

There’s No Sound In My Head: Mark Applebaum’s Metaphysics of Notation

Very cool exhibit now showing at the Schneider Museum of Art at SOU – with weekly musical interpretations every Friday @ 11:00 am, through April 26th.

Applebaum gave a fascinating talk about his music and compositional style at the opening on March 11, followed by an impromptu performance of the “Metaphysics” by Terry Longshore and Brian McWhorter.

If you appreciate creativity, music and visual art, GO SEE THIS.

Crazy jazz video of the week

Something a little more contemporary this week, yet none-the-less insane (Zorn on the sax starting around  36:00 is completely ridiculous).

Settling in

Now that I’ve occupied the space for a few months, settled in, gotten to know new neighbors & surroundings, it’s time to improve the setup and get all of these new frame samples up and accessible – and off of my work counter.

First step – 3 new carpeted panels for the wall.

(Re)New

Welcome to the new news section (blog) for Rogue Frameworks and Bohemia Gallery (the gallery is currently on hiatus but should return this summer).

I’ll be using this space to post news about the shop, art & exhibitions around town, framing projects, ideas & specials, and the occasional crazy-awesome jazz video from youtube. . . like this one.
