Please consider participating in the Lithia Park Painting Event Saturday, June 19th. There is no limit to the number of artists who would like to go out and paint, but we can exhibit the work of the first 30 to register. The show is called ART BEYOND: Saturday in the Park – it’s a snapshot of a day in the park. Exhibition at ScienceWorks in partnership with SMA. Also – it says painting, but of course any media that you like is welcome! Please register right away! I want you in the show!
Open to all. Sign up to join fellow Plein Air artists in Lithia Park on Saturday, June 19th. Artists can come and go throughout the day. The general public will be encouraged to engage with the artists between 10am-5pm where you can talk about your work and process. This event is part of Art Beyond, a new initiative from the Schneider Museum of Art to promote the visual arts in outdoor spaces.

Project Space is the educational art studio of abstract artist Megan Headley and representational painter Sarah F. Burns. Located in downtown Talent, OR, Project Space promotes innovative partnerships between artists, educators, community groups and local residents through art classes, exhibitions and community events.
Sarah’s classes are designed to grow students’ ability to realize their own artistic vision. Class focuses on timeless principles of drawing and painting that apply to any style of artwork. These principles apply to any representational subject. In this class the subject of focus is Still Life. Students will be able to set up their own still life with Sarah’s guidance with the aim of building skills in the following areas:
Proportion
Placement
Linear Perspective
Atmospheric Perspective
Structure
Values/Tones
Understanding Light, Shadow
Color
Use of materials
Anatomy
Character
Composition
These skills will apply to every single piece of representational artwork students will make in the future. It lays a strong foundation for beginners and hones the skill of advanced artists.
This ten week course includes powerpoint lectures with examples of the principles by master artists, group demonstrations by Sarah, and one on one feedback with each student. Students will have ample time for working in class and the possibility of coming in outside of class to spend extra time on their project.
Materials: Because the skills apply to every type of medium, students are welcome to choose the ones they prefer. All projects start with drawing, as this is the easiest, cleanest and most portable way to develop the skills. Oils are Sarah’s preferred painting media, and she can offer more technical advice with this material, but students who are familiar or prefer another media, such as watercolor, acrylic or pastel are very welcome to do so. Some students prefer to draw the entire session, and that can be very beneficial, especially for beginners.
