Central Art Supply Carries on a Legacy for our Art Community

In 1976 George & Winnie Ebert brought their successful art materials business from Coos Bay, OR to Medford – Ebert Arts Center & Framing. In 1981 they moved to 6th & Central Ave known now as Central Art Supply. Their vision and belief in the artistic pulse of Southern Oregon has benefitted our region for the past 41years. Truly pioneers in the art community that we have all come to love.

George passed away September 20 after a battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed by his family and by many in the community. He loved working with people and had such a pleasant disposition. Up until the last month of his life, he would often stop by Central Art to hang out, help, visit with customers – whatever he wanted to do. We at Central Art are proud to carry on his legacy here in the art community.

-Ann Ebert

Below is a copy of the obituary that was printed in the Mail Tribune 9/27

December 27, 1929 – September 20, 2017

George Edward Ebert, 87, passed away peacefully September 20, 2017 surrounded by his family in his home in Medford, Oregon. He was born December 27, 1929 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin to Henry Joseph Ebert and Francis Ruth Klein.

His family moved to Rockaway, Ore. in 1943. George worked hard throughout his life to care for his family, often working two jobs in the early years. In 1970, he successfully opened an art supply and framing business in Coos Bay, Ore. and eventually expanded operations to Medford, Ore. After 27 years George retired and sold the store, now known as Central Art Supply, to his son. In 2000 George and his wife, Winifred served an 18-month temple mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippiness. During and before retirement George could always be counted on to lend a helping hand whether it was a building project or helping at the LDS church pear farm. George set a great example in life for all; his wife and children cherish the opportunities they had working with him over the years.

George is survived by his wife, Winifred Ebert of Medford, Ore.; 10 children, Holly Juttelstad of Tigard, Ore., Ed Ebert of Vancouver, Washington, Joe Ebert of Alpine, Utah, Jeff Ebert of Ogden, Utah, and Dan Ebert of Medford, Ore., his stepchildren, Elizabeth Admire of Sublimity, Ore., Deborah Byers of Round Top, Texas, Dan Cofoed of Selma, Ore., Vicki Nelson of Talent, Ore., and Don Cofoed of Bend, Ore.; 40 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Cliff Ebert of Forest Grove, Ore. and Ken Ebert of Medford, Ore. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Ebert and sister, Cathy Smith.

A funeral service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3456 Bellinger Lane, Medford, OR. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Salvation Army for the flood victims..

Janis Ellison Pastel Workshop:

Janis Ellison is excited to offer the one day  pastel painting  workshop,

The Art of the Wave!

Saturday, July 22nd, 10:00-3:00 at Central Art Supply

If you have reference photos of waves please bring them, Janis will also bring photographs if you do not have them.

Here is a tip: I find the best way to take photos of isolated waves is to take a video on your iPhone, then freeze the frame by taking a “screen shot” when you get that perfect wave. Here is how to do it on an iPhone, or iPad https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200289. You could also take the video with your camera, load into you computer and use your photo editing software.

I have already received payment and deposits from many of you. If you haven’t registered yet you can do so by calling or emailing me to see if there is still space and then mailing either a 25.00 deposit or payment in full of 85.00 to me at the address below. (I will be away on a trip, so please don’t be alarmed if your check doesn’t get cashed until July when I return).
